Just finished my plans for a 3 day Memorial Day weekend tour of the north part of the Robert Trent Jones golf trail in Alabama. They have a special for 3 days unlimited golf for $144pp. We are playing the Schoolmaster and Fighting Joe at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, the Highlands and River Course at Hampton Cove in Huntsville, and the Ridge and the Valley at Oxmoor in Birmingham. Chose these cause they are the quickest to get to from Central Arkansas. Anybody been on any of these courses??

In my Arkansas Razorbacks stand bag:

I have played all these courses. They are all wonderful. The Fighting Joe is by far the hardest its a links style with super tall rough and narrow fairways not to narrow though and WOW it's LOOOONG. School Master is lots easier and more forgiving. The Highlands is in a transition to a links style now it should be done by the time you get there its rolling hills elevated greens. The River Course is pretty flat lots of water and sand very fun course to play. The Valley and Ridge courses are my favorites of all those I can't even explain these execpt very hilly and...........well IMO Perfect you will love these 2. But all of them are great courses I hope this helps.

PS......For the Fighting Joe take a few extra balls you might need them

When you are in Huntsville for the Hampton Cove Courses I would recommend Conners Steak and Seafood its about a 20 min drive from the golf course. Just ask the folks a the hotel you are staying at the can tell you how to get there. If you are staying in the Ebassy Suites they have a Ruth Chris Steak House but I would still recommend Conner's their Fillet is AMAZING.

    • Great post and I agree with almost all of it. The discipline piece is real — most golfers want the result without the reps. One thing I'd add: there's a version of discipline that happens away from the range too. The 20 handicapper who texts the next day with a full-speed video — that's not just a practice discipline problem. That's an identity problem. He still sees himself as a 20 handicap who's trying something new. He hasn't made the internal shift to being the golfer who practices with intention. I work on the mental side of the game and what I've found is that the golfers who actually stick with the slow, boring, disciplined practice are the ones who've done some internal work on who they believe they are as a golfer. The ones who quit after two range sessions never changed the story they tell themselves. They're still running the old software. Discipline isn't just "will you do the reps." It's "do you believe you're the type of golfer who does the reps." That belief piece is what separates the ones who text you the next day with a full-speed swing from the ones who actually put in the work.
