Well I just got back from a tournament this weekend and I hit the ball exceptionally well and putted exceptionally horrible. Had 38 putts first day, 39 today. AWFUL. Killing my game. So I have been looking for anything to help and came across the grip that K.J. Choi uses. I was wondering if anyone here uses it and how they like it.

Also, I was thinking about purchasing a belly putter. I don't know though. Anyone use them? If so, how do you like it compared to a standard length putter?

I picked up the Super Stroke grip. Installed it on my white hot 2-ball clone. Which is a r-handed putter (I choose to putt lefty most of the time).

I used it for a couple rounds. What I noticed, was the size of the grip not allowing me much wrist action. I really had to work the pendulum. So that was a nice benefit. Honestly, I will probably try it on a different putter at some point--particularly one of my lefty's.

The downfall is the weight. It just seemed unbalanced. I probably could add some lead tape to the putter head and even it out some. . .My 2cents

Well my putting has always smelled pretty bad so this winter I built a 41" belly out of an old putter I had laying around and I've been putting the best I ever have. My next step was to try that grip....I really like the belly...good luck!

I've had a Super Stroke putter grip for nearly a year and have used it on and off in actual play so I'll try to give my impressions and perhaps some advice to help with the weight/balance issue.

First off - it certainly does help quiet over-active wrists... which is why Choi and a few others are using it. I found that when I play really quick greens it was more effective than a regular sized grip and helped me maintain a smooth flow to the putting stroke.

Secondly, the weight/balance issue is something worth experimenting with by using lead tape on either the putter head or else the shaft just below the grip. If you've read anything about the Torpedo Golf putter that P. Harrington used to win a European Tour event last year right before the British Open then you'll know what I'm talking about. Basically it's a brass insert in the putter shaft just below the grip to "harmonize" the shaft. I used lead tape (two or three strips about 8" long) to achieve pretty much the same effect and am using that on all my putters (don't ask!) now and I feel strongly that something like this will be one of the next "big things" in putter technology very soon.

For me it helped re-balance the putter with the Super Stroke grip and made the whole putter feel more comfortable while putting. Highly recommended!

The length is another factor with the Super Stroke that might take some experimenting as well - it comes with a plastic tube that fits into the end of your putter shaft and you can either add or cut off sections to come up with the proper feeling length. Again, it's going to take some messing around because to use the Super Stroke in USGA competition you have to glue the screws into the shaft to make it permanent, which is something I wasn't ready to do right now. I fiddle with clubs, shafts and grips way, way too much for my own good but it keeps things fresh and exciting for me and keeps me from buying too many clubs to experiment with - I don't consider the ten lob wedges I have in my golf shop too many, by the way!

hope this helps a bit -

I have used this for a year now. I like it. Some thoughts:

-The weight of the grip could take away from feeling the weight of the head. I have it on my 2ball and find it needs no adjustment for me. But I used it on an Anser 4 and needed led tape.

-Definatley helps with the pendulum motion and takes the wrists out of it.

I have been putting better overall. I will get detailed stats later. I have had one horrible day putting (think 38 putts) but its offset from my day I had 22 putts. So throwing those out I will get my averages up later for comparison. Pre and Post.

I picked this grip up today and at first had mix feelings

first off, there is no way I'm glueing this bad buy down...

the weight doesnt really feel to be to much of an issue for me, at least in my hands. I struggled with long putts today, leaving them short, but 10 footers in the grip worked wonders

oh just to answer part of your original question I have experimented with bellys but you have to be really careful with the fitting. I've found that if you buy one stock off the rack its really difficult to find the correct length belly.

I've also found if you take the grip off and try to either cut or extend you end up messing with the feel and weight.

Also, if you buy a standard putter and try to convert you'll need to find a shop that will be able to alter the lie of the putter because it changes dramatically when you convert a standard putter to a belly

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
