I have a problem with my driver that I am worried about. Most of you probably know that the Nike Sasquatch SUMO is LOUD when you hit it, but mine isn't. Recently my driver has been making a quiet "dud" sound, not like when I first got it. I have a few questions about this.

Is this noise because of a cracked driver? And if it is, I do not see a crack on the face, and neither does my coach. Could there be an internal crack that would cause this? And if it is not a crack what could it be?

Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

I've heard you can dunk it in water, see if air bubbles come up and water gets inside. Was it always muted? Since you are playing at 44" was anything added to the head to get the swingweight up?

No it wasn't always muted, and no they didn't change the swing weight at all, well I didn't tell them to, and I'm pretty sure they didn't.

I would take it back to where you bought it and ask what is going on. And see if you can hit some balls in front of them to show the problem. But if you got it off ebay i guess ask some people at a pro shop that have experience with the Nike clubs

The biggest problem is I bought the club at the beginning of last season, so the warranty is expired. But my swing coach also thought my driver is broken, so my mom is probably going to buy me a new driver. Thanks for the help Thein and Gelbert

What SUMO do you have? I am looking at picking up a Nike driver and a wood but I just dont know which to go with. They list 4 different ones on their website...
The 5900, 5000, SUMO2 and just SUMO.

What one would you all recommend for a beginner.

Also, has the problem with 907golfer12's driver a common one among Nikes?

Thanks

I would suggest the newest model SUMO, and the square one if you have the money, but the new ones are darker on the sole, they have some black areas. And no it's not common. The fairway wood's are great, I just found one I liked better.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
