Hey everyone-
I just joined today so I'm still kind of figuring everything out. I'm in high school and I used to be a big time soccer player with ambitions of playing in college- but I've had a bunch of concussions and a kind of bad one recently, so I've picked up golf (as per doctor's orders ).

I'm looking for some new wedges. I have a PW from my King cobra II iron set that I can hit pretty well (~115 yds), a Dunlop SW that I can't hit for the life of me and then a Knight 60 Deg that I can hit about half of the time.

What type of wedges should I be looking for- keep in mind I'm still relatively new, but I play and practice a lot so I don't want to be buying a really cheap or "garage sale" club. I was looking at the Cleveland CG14 Wedges, but I'm really open to anything I guess.

Thanks for the replies.

There are many wedges that have been discussed all over this forum. Some people claim that even wedges I haven't even heard of are excellent, Solus Wedges i think?

Keep an eye out for the Cleveland CG12's, 14's like you said, Nike SV Tour wedges, and the Titleist Vokey's to name a few.

If you already have a 60* and a SW, are you looking to replace those? or to just add one more wedge to your bag?

If I'd replace anything it'd probably be the Lob wedge- it's probably as old as I am (I took it from my dad's bag- he can barely hit it either) and it's the club I used from within probably 50 yards. I use it on everything- getting out of the sand, chips, (attempted) flops, its basically my go-to club, but I'm not consistent enough with it.

I'm actually about to buy a 60* CG14 black pearl, after some light researching. Although the "gelback" technology is kind of unneeded in a wedge, cleveland has produced very solid wedges for years. Also I just think its a very attractive club, and fits in well with my CG gold Irons .

A friend of mine just bought a Carbite wedge for 19.99, and I would have to recommend it. It actually hits very nice, and an amazing deal.

Thanks everyone

gator- if you don't mind, tell me how you like the cg14 after you get it, that's the one I'm sort of leaning towards

I LOVE my Golden Bear M86 wedges. They are dirt cheap (~$60) for all 3 of them.(52, 56, 60). I'm obsessed with them, they are excellent clubs, especially for the $$.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
