I have just read a fantastic review from Erik at sandtrap, it really gave me a good insight into what I am looking for. But until I read this I didn't have a clue! I am looking to buy a lob wedge at the moment having only recently
re-commenced playing golf. I didn't even know you could get different
bounce from the same loft!!!

Basically I just wanted a bit of advice (if you have the time). I am
currently playing off 18 which I am happy enough with considering I have
only just started playing again, but I intend to play a lot of golf over
the next year and already am finding I am 'missing' a club in my bag. What
club would you recommend for someone like myself who is looking for
something to play from the fairway and rough to fill the gap between PW and
SW. From what I can tell I am considering the Titleist SM56.10.....with a view to adding a 60 degree to replace my SW if I like it.

I have also just seen that there is gap wedges for playing fairway shots and wondered what benefits these may bring? Are they easier to control than a Lob wedge as I have heard they can be hard to hit.

Thanks

A lob wedge is the highest lofted club. Your PW is probably about 48 and your sand wedge... I don't know, they're typically 56 or 54. So if you're considering adding a 56 and a 60, I don't know what lofts you've got now.

I have a 54.10 (opened up it plays to about 14° bounce) and a 60.04. Those are my numbers - one high bounce, one low bounce. My PW is 48°.

48 - 54 - 60 - and the distances are equally spaced as well.

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
