I agree. It's quite typical to fight nationalism or patriotism with charges of racism, although no 'races' were specifically mentioned aside from common countries associated with manufacturing or outsourcing.

I am also a business owner, and appreciate that if my customers could no longer pay me, I would not be able to stay in business. The way most customers pay for things is to make money from a job. Hence, if they don't have a job, it's tough for business to continue. This seems to be forgotten by our current government. They are happy to give tax breaks to companies who either move jobs off shore, or bring in cheaper labor to do the work in the US. They forget that if their people aren't working, they won't be getting any money either.

The 'global economy' is a great concept on Star Trek, but not quite true in real life. While some economies are intertwined, there are still borders, different laws, different rights and wars. Our best friend could be our biggest enemy in a day. National sovereignty is still important, as is self-reliance and defense. If the world was so open, why is so much money spent on defense? Why do we have troops in Iraq and Pakistan (among many other places)? Why is the border between Pakistan and India so protected, and the border between North and South Korea militarized? Why is there a North and South Korea at all? Because the so-called 'world economy' isn't quite as globalized as economic idealists like to think.

It's easy to sit at the top of the world economy and talk about ideal situations. It's much tougher to sit at the bottom and listen while your 11 year old works in a factory and you can't make more than a few dollars a month at 15 hours a day 6 days a week.

BTW - I'm American, but of SE Asian descent.

The definition of racism is choosing to side with someone or something based soley on ethnicity.

Exactly, and when you are talking about America there really is no specific ethnicity.

You could definetly accuse me of nationalism, but not racism. I actually kinda laughed when I read some of the above posts that hinted at racism. I guess none of those people read my posts in the thread about who is the hottest female pro golfer when I voted for Michelle Wie. Also, one of my favorite pro golfers is Shigeki Maruyama. Some other things you all dont know about me is that Ive had 3 girlfriends who were Asian (a Hmong, a Korean and a Japanese). Infact, Id love to date an Asian girl again if I got the chance. Also, I have an immense amount of respect for Japan. I speak Japanese and Ive owned a couple Toyotas and several Yamahas (snowmobile, an ATV and a dirtbike). Also, Im a student of judo and kendo. Ive also done an extensive amount of reading on the ways of bushido (system of morals and values that governed the life of the samurai). One of my goals is to visit Japan someday. Infact, I would go so far as to say that I would consider my life to be incomplete if I never visit Japan. Yeah, I prefer to play Titleist equipment, but Id give Nike or Mizuno a serious consideration. If I demoed a set of Nikes or Mizunos and liked them better than what Titleist offers, Id buy Nike or Mizuno. The same goes with cars. Ive owned Toyotas in the past and Id seriously consider owning another Toyota if it worked out like that. Toyota makes some amazing vehicles and Im seriously considering buying a Toyota Yaris or Toyota Corolla in a year or 2. Its just going to be a matter of test driving some cars and seeing what I like. So, yeah, I like to buy American whenever possible, but at the same time, Im not so blind that if it doesnt say, "MADE IN USA" on it that I wont buy it. So, to anyone who would dare to say Im racist, you dont know what you are talking about.

I dont recall saying you were a racist...I would never, I dont know you. I said it sounded like racism. Based purely on definition.

I didnt really take offense to it, but to say that my post had a hint of racism would imply that Im a racist. That just simply not true.

At least they are assembled in the USA. I almost bought a box of Nike Ignite golfballs today, until I looked at the bottom of the box and read where it said, "MADE IN CHINA". Hmmm, no thanks.

I bought a box of Titleist DT Rolls instead, it says right on the box, "MADE IN USA".

I find it hard to believe that you were about to buy Nike balls. You have been bashing Nike on here for 3 days now, and praising Titleist.

Believe what you want. I do have a Nike glove, you know. I actually have a new respect for Nike, now that I know they dont require Tiger to use their products unless he feels they are right for him.

The main reason I was considering Nike balls is because they are less expensive than Titleist balls. I like Titleist stuff, but that doesnt mean that I wont try something else.

The only American car company that is actually proactive in trying to successfully prevent themselves from constantly digging into their increasingly dwindling coffers, is GM. They are finally starting to make good cars again.

Ford's current American lineup is JUNK, except the F-150. Why they believe by reinstating the "Taurus" name is of any benefit, is complete ignorance. If anything, the name Taurus probably recalls bad memories because they were so damn unreliable regardless of it being their best selling car ever. And the worst part is that they jip their fellow americans by not selling the cars that they do in Europe. BUT FINALLY, they've decided to bring excellent cars over from the one market where they are actually making a profit. We'll be seeing these models within a couple of years (search Ford Mondeo), but they've been hot sellers in Europe for the past several.

Chrysler....well, god help them. The only way they can sell enough cars is by offering gas incentives?! Give me a break. I wouldn't take a chrysler if someone gave it to me as a gift, except the new Challenger. They are piss poor quality on the inside, and out.

If the greedy, money hungry American executives had a hint of insight during the 70's they would not be in the position that they are in at the moment. That is the bottom line. They got comfortable and extremely rich and as soon as you get comfortable in any business, you have to be your toes, not your heels like the big three were. It couldn't be more obvious, and the Japanese have built their reputation for a reason, not because of media brain washing. Their cars have been better, and are still better quality cars than American cars. Granted, GM is finally stepping up to the plate

I've been patriotic by not supporting/buying the inferior automobiles that were/are being produced in this country as a way of lighting a fire under their asses. The foreign competition IS GOOD and in the end we will get better cars from our companies.

As an aside, 2008 EPA gas mileage ratings have changed because they have finally updated testing procedures to better reflect real life MPG ratings. This is why you may think that the previous model year of probably every car got better mileage, however in reality, it is the same. Now, the MPG ratings you see on new autos is pretty close to what you actually get on the street!

GM lost more money in 2007 and so far in 2008 then any other American car company. They cant continue based on what they owe in pensions and benefits.

Not all borders are so protected.

There is golf course between Sweden and Finland where some holes are in Sweden and some in Finland. One hole is even so that teebox is in Sweden and green is in Finland. This is longest hole in the world. Ball flight takes 1 hour and few seconds (different timezone in Sweden and Finland) Sorry, I couldn't resist commenting. Your discussion started to be so serious about "golf equipments".

sorry to get off topic of cars, but on the dicks website, they have all the taylormade clubs listed with the country of origin being the united states. does this just mean theyre assembled here, or actually made here?

Posted
TaylorMade is owned by Adidas which is not a US company. But they do have their North American HQ in CA. I am not sure as I dont play Taylor Made, but I would imagine it would mean they are assembled here.

they are assembled here... not a chance in the world they are made here

    • Got off to probably one of my best starts ever last night.   Was -1 thru 5 and finished the front 9 with a +1 (37).   The back 9 wasn't very good but we were playing speed golf to try and beat the darkness.   Ended up with 37/44 for an 81.   Still a great score for me.    My last 5-6 rounds have all contributed to my handicap index so we trending in the right direction.
    • I don't see the swing speed as any advantage or disadvantage either way. While they don't have the "WOW!" factor that some of the men have. i.e. "Did you see Rory's 380 yard drive on 17!" That kind of thing. They do, however, play the courses shorter. I think their average LPGA Tour course is like 6400 yards, compared to 7300 for the men. So when I watch it on TV it looks kinda the same. They hit driver then 8 iron, just like the men hit driver then 8 iron. I don't really care that the hole is 100 yards shorter or whatever.  Let me put it another way. If I was to watch the WNBA and then watch the NBA, I would immediately notice how much slower the players are. How much more the men play above the rim. etc... Why? Because the court is the same size. The hoop is the same height. When I watch the LPGA Tour and then watch the PGA Tour, I don't notice (as much). They hit driver then 5 iron into a par-5 just like the men do. Because the course is smaller, it looks similar. BTW - The same is true of softball vs baseball. The softball diamond is much smaller. So, the line shots look similar, there are equally as many home runs, because the field is smaller it looks pretty similar in play.  Here's where to my way of thinking, they can make some hay. If the LPGA Tour was to lead the way in terms of pace of play they may be able to add additional excitement to their game and possibly start to make some converts. I'm an idiot who has never been a sports commissioner. But it seems that when MLB noticed their games started approaching 4 hours and Major League Soccer was always done in under 2 hours. They made changes to try to improve and it seems to be working.  With the LPGA Tour it seems you either need exciting personalities or need exciting play. If they improve the pace of play issue it could add to exciting play. Again, I'm no expert but that seems like an area they could lead instead of follow. It does seem they've recognized this. So, we shall see.
