I posted in another thread but wanted to start a new thread.

I have a TM R7 steel 3 wood. I really like it with the UST V2 shaft stiff flex. The only problem is out of all my clubs this one always tails off right (fade). It's hard for me to move the ball from right to left with this club also. I have not had my SS measured but I play a stiff shaft V2 in my Nike driver with no issues. I carry that about 250 and my 6 iron carry distance is 165 so I think I should be playing a stiff shaft. I notice if I really go after it I hit it straight and far but with a slower / smoother swing it fades off a bit and the ball flight is noticeably lower.

I know the UST is 2.9 torque and 67 grams. I was thinking about shafting it with a pro launch platinum or YS 6 +. Both have roughly 3.5 torque and the same swing weight.

Does it also sound like I need a softer flex or + torque shaft to help with a smoother swing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

you might be onto something there. instead of getting a higher torque shaft, see if you can find a regular flex that is tip stiff (low torque) and see how that works for you.

That's an idea. I always hated the whippy feeling of a regular flex shaft but with the stiff tip it evens out I guess. Do you know of any good stiff tip shafts?

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
