So I bought this XG Marxman mini today and found a poker chip in the headcover. Cool, but do people really use these as ball markers? Sure seems like I wouldn't want it in my line if someone else used it to mark with!

Mostly a gimmick methinks (not really sure why I felt like using that word right there), but they could always ask you to move your marker for their putt.

They are kinda cool lookin'.

i have a custom 36.5" mini marxman and i was using the poker chip as a ball marker for a while but now i just keep it in my ball markers bag and use a 1 or 2 euro coin instead.

I've got one, but have never used it. It is way yo big and bulky.

I usually use the Titleist magnet marker from one of my hats, but I use this chip frequently. I like it, and it looks pretty cool.

It is cool and I will use mine, especially during scrambles when we all putt from the same spot. It gets some funny looks and a few laughs. I use it to keep the mood light. I would use something different in tournament play, though.

A little off-topic, but the course I played this morning (public/non-muni) was selling logo poker chips in the pro shop.

I am not aware of a fad yet, I think that it is just something fun that Odyssey started and I guess it caught on elsewhere. I have not seen these logo chips, but it is a cool idea.

After strating this, I actually used the search function! An older thread said one of the guys at Odyssey is a bigtime gambler, thus the beginning of the poker chip.
I'll try it and see. Guess it's better than using my chewed up gum like I usually use :>)

I heard somewhere that it became somewhat of a trend that some of the pros were using poker chips as ball markers and odyssey decided to to include it for that reason. I'm not sure how true that is, but I'll try and find where I read it.

You can have personalized poker chip sets made up these days so I'd guess you'll be seeing a lot more of this. Anything from initials, logos to digital images. Pretty cool to have chips with pics of the kids on 'em if you ask me.
