how extreme will putters get??

I wonder how many of those who wouldn't dream of using these putters have a 460cc high MOI driver in their bag?

I dont. Infact, I dont even carry a driver in my bag.

I just purchased an Odyssey Tri-Ball SRT about a month back. Its basically the 2 ball version that I've seen a few of the pros use on steroids, with an extra ball. I don't know if its the new putter or just my skill improving, but I have been putting better with it. In fact, I sank a 25 footer followed by a 15 footer back to back. I like the way the ball rolls off the putter, and it seems like I don't have to swing very hard to make the ball roll far, along with the fact that my rolls are more consistent. I'm sure quite a bit of it is that my skill of putting is improving, but the putter gives me more confidence in my putting, and that's what its supposed to do.

Marketing and the promise of lower scores will keep people buying them until an outside force (i.e. the USGA) intervenes. Until that happens, I look forward to see the new crazy ideas that people have with their putters.

Exactly. They have to keep coming out with new equipment with the promises that it will improve your game so that people will keep buying golf equipment.

If they didnt, other than golfballs, most of us would probably seldom every upgrade our clubs and most of the golf companies would go out of business. Thats not to say that advances in driver and iron technology havent improved our games, but for the most part no matter how good your clubs or balls are, if you dont make a good swing, you arent going to get a good result.

The design of the putter really doesn't bother me. If people like to play putters like Spider, then go ahead. But the belly putter is another thing, I think that's unnatural, but that's just me

That was probably the PING Doc 17 Udranium. I've played around with it, and it's actually a solid putter - but definitely ginormous. Suzann Pettersen uses the PING Doc 15 version. (And just in case someone in the world hasn't heard the story, she "stole" it from her pro-am partner at a tournament, and promptly won a major.)

I suppose that it's up to the individual as to what is appealing.


I never thought in a million years I would ever use something like a 2-ball putter.....but then I found one with a firmer insert that I preferred....and my aligment woes were lessened considerably. These putters really are worth trying.

I've messed around a bit with the Spyder and 3-ball....but they just don't work for me.


The Tiffany is a good match...at least in the store....gotta try one on a real green.


The RedX is one that I'd love to have. Very classy, great feel....and alignment is a breeze.

I'm not even sure why anyone would care what kind of putter designs they come out with. If you don't like the feel of it or think it's ugly, don't buy it.

Simple as that. Some people like these crazy designs and some people don't care and will try anything that helps them putt better. It's all personal preference really.

That about sums it up. I love having crazy equipment. I want people to see me putt and be like "Woah."

Not only because i just sunk a 20-footer but becuase i did it with a putter that looks ugly as sin!

Today at a local golf store I was messing around with two new putters. One was from yes and had this huge cylinder on top of it, I have no clue what it was called or anything, but it was a really solid putter, but retailed at $280.

The other was a cube no wider then three inches and was called I think the "stubby". That thing was almost impossible to use and was in the discount bin for a pretty obvious reason.

Don't forget the ones with screen on them that tell you how to hit the ball and what not....

I think since the heel toe started people have forgotten how to put for the most part. Then came the mallet the even more forgiving mallet putters. Putters will continue to find ways to be more forgiveing(example adjustable weights). But at some point it will start to be worse.
