I cannot hit this son of a ***** for the life of me.

I have been jumping from club to club borrowing my families and such. With a ping rapture i could hit a baby fade and keep it in play, same with the g10.

However, now I'm using a club about as old as I am and i can hit it straight maybe 1/5 times. The rest are slices so intense i think they may go farther right than straight.

I know its hard without a video, but i keep the ball about 2 inches off of my front toe(inward not outward). And when i swing i tend to have an inside-out swing and my marks and divots(when made or when trying to make) point to the left of where i am aiming.

Any help or drills would be appreciated.

where are your hands lining up in relation to the ball? i used to have the same problem but worse. almost all of my drives would slice HARD no matter how far i went to the left... I've found that if you line your hands up just behind the ball, it helps hit straighter... just my .02...

I never thought about my actual grip, but it contributed to many of my wicked slices and off center shots. I was gripping with my left hand much tighter and tightly interlocked with my right than i should have which caused my right hand to turn the club face over and slice (I'm a rightie). I did some simple corrections to my grip by watching videos online and reading others and now I can smack a ball straight with a slight left to right fade.

Start your drives out with a less aggressive swing until you're comfortable with that club. Switching drivers every round will not help your situation at all! You need to stick to one driver and get used to its length, weight, etc.

Yeah i figure this and having a club that isn't stiff enough for my swing. The stiffer it is the better i do.

I figured that the clubhead was lagging behind my hands causing all types of wild shots. My new driver comes tommorrow or wednesday so I'm hoping for the best, but i will defiently watch some grip videos thanks guys!

I was in the same boat but I think I finally figured it out...at least at the range.

I was having huge slice problems with the driver and have had them for ever since I've been golfing. I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror one day and randomly took my stance. Anyhow, I noticed that while I thought my shoulders were lined up to my target the whole time and it felt like they were, my front shoulder was actually really open. So now, I just make a point of closing my front shoulder a bit when I use driver and I'm able to hit it pretty straight most of the time. And I also dropped my right foot back just a touch. And by back I mean down, like towards your body, not back away from the ball.

Driver's the only club I had an issue with my shoulder being open too, so even if you think it's not a problem, it could be.

posting a video is probably your best bet. You dont want to be learning short term compensations that may help you through the weekend. Putting up a video allows us to notice any major flaws, and collectively, we can probably help you hammer out some of the minor ones as well. It may be trite, but the best driver swing is just a fundamental golf swing..and a video of what your up to when you have a driver in your hand willl help us a lot.

What I have bolded in your post is usually the result of an out to in swing. You may be coming from the inside as you start your downswing but are probably throwing the club outside or over the top of your swing plane in the classic over top move and coming back to the ball from outside. That is probably why your divots point left and why you probably slice the ball. As for a cure, like m11 said, a video would be very helpful.

This is not that hard...

Keep good posture

TURN. Don't sway side to side. If you are right handed, that left shoulder should be right on your chin at the top of your swing.

Concentrate on keeping your head still all the way through the swing. Don't look up to follow your ball until you are through it.

Get those hands over (point towards your target with the toe on follow through)

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: Swing for your follow through...not at the ball. You will be amazed how screwed up your swing gets when you are TRYING to hit the ball. Hope this helps.

A good friend of mine had great problems with his driving, he looked like he had a good fluent swing but nearly always sliced it and the wooden tee was leaving a telltale diagonal mark on the bottom of his driver, I noticed that although he was taking the club back on the inside, as he came down he was slightly outside causing him to come across the ball puting spin on the ball giving the slice, so I suggested moving back away from the bal maybe half an inch or so and wow what a difference, he is nearly always in the fairway off the tee and now I can't beat him LOL

Besides proper setup, this is the most important concept. You also must make sure that when you learn to turn, you dont force your shoulders to go further than it was to by pulling with your arms. Also, you dont want to dip your left shoulder when you turn...thats a sign of overswinging

A slice can be caused by many things.. over bending elbows, using all arms and no waist on a swing, gripping wrong, out to in swing, wrong ball alignment (yours is correct though by what you have told), and having a fast swing speed using a regular shaft. I myself just overcame a big slice but with my new stiff shaft and new driver all together, and a whole new driver swing i've adopted my waist power much more into my swing and have been driving the best i've ever have.

    • Day 216 (4 Dec 24) - Dink and roll Weds - working on the green side short game covering 5-10 yd chips to low running pitches to about 50 yds (I have accommodating neighbors).  Focused on keeping stance more narrow, eye target about 2” in front of the ball AND not looking up until I see the ball leave.  This drill has really enhanced my confidence in making more consistent ball strikes.
    • As a supporter of the European team even though I chose to live in the US, this is kind of good news. I'm pretty close to Bethpage, but won't be going at these prices. Neither will the crazy drunk NY sports fans who would have made this a very difficult place to play as a Euro. The tickets will go to the city types who are entertaining clients and don't care about the money. Many of them are going to sit there and watch, not get all raucous. I am not dumb enough to believe that this is going to be like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park for the Euros, but I think it will be significantly more subdued as a result of the prices. Even at $250 I would probably have been watching on the TV anyway so no real skin in the game.
    • First, it is on free TV. NBC is free to anyone with an antenna, and is on almost any TV in the U.S. with a minimal amount of effort. Charging "a bargain price" would be incredibly dumb. They charged $750 and the event sold out almost immediately. You could better argue they should have charged MORE, not less. What happens if you charge less: ticket scalpers buy up even more of the tickets because they see value: if tickets were $250, they'd clearly have sold for $1k or more on the secondary market. That's tremendous value. Fans would end up paying the same or more, or just not being able to go. Sure, a few who happened to be online at the precise moment on a fast connection and didn't fumble with their credit cards might have gotten tickets for $250, but the secondary market and ticket brokers would have scooped up the vast majority with automated processes and bots and scripts, then re-sold them later on. This way, fans get to purchase the tickets, and the PGA is earning that revenue, not the secondary ticket brokers. Econ 101. Supply and Demand. Nope.
    • Tiger Woods on Ryder Cup pay: 'I hope they would get $5 million each and donate it all to charity' Edit - the link has no title, but basically Tiger wants $5 million for each US player to “donate to charity”   They could put the Ryder Cup on free to air tv, and charge the fans a bargain price to get in.  If you have to  give the players $60 million, that’s why the tickets are $750.
