i dissagree with the guy that says its just a patch. Tip stiffness is very important with these new big heads. i changed from a crappy stiff shaft. I would recommend prolaunch blue by grafalloy or the proforce v2 like i got on this forum for 35$ ish shipped. Fantastic shaft, so different from a ys-6. 28 tip stiffness and a 2.2 torque. No more ballon bendy crap shots. feels just right. i can still hit off the tip of the club and hit it straight like i did today, a great feeling. I do agree that the shaft is more important than the clubhead. Just find something that stiff in the tip for a good price and don't look back. its better to be too stiff imo.

Amen to all of this.....it is said to play the stiffest shaft you can handle, stiffness gives you accuracy, more flex gives you distance - you want to hit the fairway.

ain't nothing wrong with a "stiff tip"

haha but in all seriousness shafts are by far the most overlooked upgrade in the bag.

amen on the Graf blue. Had it in my last SQ and it was a monster. piercing trajectory w/great roll.

To address the length issue: yes, the Burner is 46" long (2007 model anyway). As far as the shaft, I had a ProLaunch Red put in mine and have been hitting far better than I ever did with the stock shaft (both shafts Stiff flex). It is a high kickpoint shaft with 2.5 degrees of torque (torsionally stiff).

I just bought that driver last week. Have played three rounds with it and love it, but I'm concerned withe my stock shaft. It's a stiff BTW.

I'm confused about the "kick point" of the shaft. What does this mean whether its high or low. And then you start talking about the different torque options?!?! I would like to get a new shaft because I think its to stiff, but I also know the R flex is to whippy. I feel like I lose distance because its to stiff, but when I hit the R flex, I have no control. Ideas? Advice on shafts? Thanks!

kickpoint determines the trajectory of your ball.

High kp = low ball flight low kp = high ball flight if the r flex is too whippy and the stiff is too stiff, then go with a R flex club with a lower torque. also you're gonna lose distance when u go to a stiff shaft. stiff so you can control the ball...have predictable hits and misses. i'd say look into a R flex shaft with low torque (3.2) or a stiff shaft with high torque (3.6) a stiff shaft w/ high torque for example would be the Graphite Design YS6.d

Kickpoint has been explained in the post above, but just for reference you may see it called bend point or bend profile also. If you hit the ball too high, you get a shaft with a high kickpoint and it brings the ball flight down (and vice-versa).

Torque is the rating of a shaft that specifies how much the shaft will twist under a load and is given in degrees. So, a shaft that has a 5 deg. torque rating will twist more than a shaft with a 2 deg. torque rating. When I first got the Burner I was hitting extremely high and a lot of slices/fades. Since upgrading the shaft, I've brought my ball flight down and I hit much straighter. The ProLaunch Red shaft that I had installed is a stiff shaft with stiff tip (2.5 deg. torque), high kickpoint. My swing speed is 103-105 and my swing tempo is very slow going back and then blasting through.

yeah you know what, stick with the ladies shaft, that sounds like the best option

Everyone loves a smarta**.

If your ball flight is left one time and right the next, high one time and low the next, a push/slice one time and a duck hook the next, then the problem is not your equipment. The problem is you don't have a consistent/repeatable swing. Most of the advice on this thread has been to get the stablest (ie stiffest, lowest torque) shaft available. Why not tell him to just put a steel shaft in his driver? It's essentially the same thing. A steel shaft has a torque of 3.0 and it's about as stiff as an x-stiff graphite (plus, the extra weight would actually make his swing more consistent and he would save money.) What would happen if he followed his coach's advice and switch to an ultra stable club? His ball flight would be left one time and right the next (just not as much), high one time and low the next (just not as much), and a push/slice one time and a duck hook the next (just not as much). It doesn't solve his root problem. His swing is incosistent. It doesn't help correct or compenstate for any flaws in his swing, because he doesn't have a swing. When he develops a consistent swing (flaws and all, consistent doesn't mean perfect), THEN he can match a shaft to his swing that will help compensate for the flaws in his CONSISTENT SWING.

Kool. thanks for the info. It does sound like I need a shaft with R flex with some torque. I try to have good tempo off the tee so my swing speed isn't fast enough for teh stock S shaft.

Any shaft advice besides the ProLaunch Red shaft? Like you said something w/ R flex and low torque.

Thanks for the advice. I need to do what you did and get a new shaft, but not that stiff. I have a slower swing speed.

So I went today and got my club head speed clocked. I took about 15 hits with my driver. I averaged between 88 and 90 mph hitting mt TM Burner. My tempo is smooth all the way through my swing.

I realized I need a R flex. Something way different than my stock S shaft. I'm loosing alot of distance.

I think I will try a new ProLaunch Shaft.

Need advice on shaft selection as well? Right now I have a prolaunch blue 65S by Grafalloy. Does anybody know what the kick point , torque ect are on this shaft? The reason being the other day a went to the range and tested 4 drivers, two I was very consistantly hitting stright with, and the other two were harder for me to control. Right now with the prolaunch blue I hit a consistant slight fade/straight and was wondering if the shaft I'm using now is wrong for me, having too much torque or not enough ect, ect. I have a swing speed of 105-110 mph with the driver if this helps.
