I recently upgraded my irons to Mizuno MX-25's, so now I have 2 sets. My first and only newly purchased irons are now not being used, and I'm on the fence with whether I sell them, or hold onto them for when friends are over and need some clubs. The old set are Ram X2 Laser Irons (frequency matched) with Brunswick Precision Steel Regular Shafts. I have 3 - PW, but can only find 5 - PW. I also have a Tom Watson TW956 Flange Sand Wedge (56 degree with 10 degree rake). The SW has has the same shaft as the Ram irons. The irons were re-gripped 2 years ago (with the Griprite / Swingrite grips).

I loaded 11 pics of these irons onto Flickr - the link is below:

I would love some input as to what a neutral third party would estimate as their worth. This is needed if I decide to put them up for sale. Please have a look, and let me know.

Thanks in advance. Happy Hitting.

Without wanting to sound like a smart arse, I'd say that you'll get more value by taking them to the club and asking the pro to give the to a deserving young golfer on a budget. They are 20 years old.

There are so many good quality late model sets on ebay that go cheaply, that I doubt that you'll find a buyer.

Great idea! And you don't sound like a smart arse (IMO) unless a smart arse is one who gives good advice.

Smart Arse = Australian for Beer (had to do it, since I saw the two beer drinking Yuengling Animoticons). The Porter is a great brew!!

I understand completely what I have in terms of the clubs' age, technology, market pressures, etc.. I am going into this potential sale with eyes wide open, but there a few European (Netherland to specific) websites posting these exact same clubs for Euro 25 each, which is like $36, so there must be market somewhere for these fine clubs (how on earth they got to this price is beyond me, however).

I'm also a little nostalgic about these sticks, but I know better than to let emotions enter into the equation.

In all likelihood, they will be heading to eBay, buT I thought I'd tap into the wise resources at the Sand Trap to offer some decent opinions.

But, they are good looking clubs in pretty good shape, so I'm still looking for the right pot for these lids!

Happy Hitting.

Lefty...,

For shoots and grins, check out this website: http://www.ironfinder.com/?ad=0202

They're selling the same Ram irons for ~$30 each! Pics are lousy, but mine are probably in better shape.

More power to them if they get their price - I'd like a piece of that.

I have the Ram Laser Irons in about the same condition, I'd think those are only worth $75-$100. Maybe even less.

Do you want another set?

I was looking at $50 - $100 for the 5 - SW (and even the 3 and 4 if they can be found). It seems like a reasonable price for a good iron, with plenty of life left in them. I also have several Snake Eyes Fairway Woods and Hybrids that will be hitting the auction block soon. Out with the old, and in with the new.

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
