Titleist AP2's..

I bought Tour Burner's about 2 months ago when I was just getting back into the game after a year layoff .. played Tommy Armour 845's for 10 years .. and before the Armours I played Titleist Tour Model Blades in college.

I had hit the AP2's and really liked them but didn't feel like I could play blades yet when just getting back into the game..

well, after about 15 rounds on the Burners I'm back to a 2.9 handicap .. I hit between 8 and 13 greens in regulation on tough courses (I only play 6700+ yard courses usually) .. and one of the only things I didn't care much about the burner's was still the lack of being able to work the ball with consistency ..

So, on an impulse I called up the local golf shop to see if they had any +1 length 2 deg up AP2's now .. and they did! Traded in the tour burners for them. :)

I'm stoked now .. back to player's blades... :)

Have fun with your new sticks.

I am also just getting back into the game after a (5 year) layoff. I am in the process of buying new irons and have narrowed it down to Tour Burners and X-20's.
I was hoping you could tell me your thoughts on the Tour Burners other than the lack of being able to work the ball with consistency
Would you recommend or not for someone playing to a 17.2 ?

Thanks

the tour burners were great sticks .. i had no real issue with them .. they were very solid, good trajectory, long too ... I hit my 845 7 iron about 165 .. the burners I hit the 7 iron about 180! .. a few tour players use them as well. Had a nice feel on impact as well and very forgiving on mishits ..

but boy .. I just got back from the range from hitting the AP2's .. I am about the same distance as the burners, maybe 5 yards shorter (if that) .. I can work the ball again, I was hitting low, high, draw, fade .. and man did they feel sweet on impact!

    • Day 245: range session today. Spent it all working on slow swings, working on my lower body stuff in the backswing. Need to feel like I’m moving forward really early. But worked well when I did that.
    • As long as we are on the subject and I’m outfitting my new bag, can someone explain hybrids to me. It seems they fall somewhere on the scale between must have and gimmick, but there’s obviously a market for them.  To me it seems like just more stuff to carry that doesn’t do anything irons can’t do, but I have no experience with them other than a H3 I picked up cheap here and it makes the ball go, but again, no better than an iron.  Hybrids didn’t exist last time I was serious about golf so I’ve had no exposure to the rationale, uses, benefits, etc.  Cheers, thanks, and happy golfing…!
    • Day 11 March 21 2025 Some indoor backswing work. Feeling the position I want the club at the top. Then doing some pathing to retrain the body.
    • The description is confusing.  I agree it is a grey area for me. Do you get a drop if you are worried about hitting the path? What is the definition of interference? Like, reasonably sure it will interfere or could interfere? Can you purposely not take practice swings to confirm, so you can take the drop. 😉
