It was 53*F today and Saturday.
I was able to get out to our local muni course (Genesee Valley Park) There were about 30 cars in the parking lot. The clubhouse was closed. They allow people to just walk on and play in the winter "season".

Even though there were a bunch of golfers, there were no delays and I was able to take my time. In fact, Saturday, I took my 6 year old son for his first time. We were able to play 4 holes at our leisure and no one waited on us and we didnt wait behind anyone. (I had my son tee off, even though he only has one club,a kid's 7-iron, and then would pick up the ball and drop it on the fairway about 75yds fom green. I would then tell him to try to get it on the green in 5 strokes.)

I went today again by myself and paired up with a senior who was there all afternoon. We played 6 holes in the hour and half that I had before work. From what he was saying, another semi-private course had a 2 hour wait for a tee-off time on saturday!

Haha my situation in the Detroit suburbs is similar. Although I haven't been able to play the course yet, I took my shag bag out to the range and hit some balls for a while in the 50º "heat". Nice to be outside so early!

Absolutely! looking forward to some prime days in February!

p.s.~ MI is a great state for Golf. Your home course looks beautiful. Some of the pics(ie; holes 8, 9 and 17) look like you can see water in the background, is it on Lake Huron?

No, unfortunately I live about 1.5 hours from Huron. The water in the pictures is just a man-made pond surrounding the signature 16th hole. There are many great courses in the Huron area though!

heh, 37* here, but still no snow!
I had about 40 min before work this evening. I stopped by the course worked on my approach shots on one of their par 3 holes. I took about 5 balls and took shots from 200yrds and in. I'm rusty on my shots with my lob wedge from 70-30yrds. Seems like I keep chunking all my 3/4 shots with the lob...

Been pretty decent here in Ohio too but no free golf around here. Our courses love to take advantage of these nice days and open up to take you money. Granted its cheap and I don't mind paying if I get to play in jan.

    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
