My birthday's in about 3 weeks. Since I'm still a little kid, I get money. I usually get around $225. I'll most likely take that money and get new irons. I've pretty much narrowed it down to about 4 choices. Opinions are wanted, and thanked.

Edit: Sorry it didn't allow me to post a thread.

Here are the choices:

-Titleist DCI Gold Oversized
-Mizuno MP-30
-Mizuno T-Zoid MX-11
-Ping Eye 2 Red Dot

Well - it depends what your after.....these 4 are about as disparate in range as you can get. You got forged blades vs forged cavity back vs cast cavity back game inprovement.

Check out more "game improvement" irons. Take a look at some of the older generation Callaway irons. You can't go wrong there, bud. Good luck! Keep that h-cap coming down!

Of all the sets of irons that I've ever owned, the Ping Eye-2's have always been my favorite. When I bought my i3 blades one of my goals was to get something similar to my Eye-2's that fit me a bit better.

If the red dot fits you, I'd say go for the Eye-2's.

Ping eye2s or Callaway x12s in this price range. You'll get all of your money back when you upgrade and resale. Any others, I have no experience with. My guess is your potential futures buyers won't have any experience with them either.

Do you have an opportunity to hit each of these? That would be best, you'd prob know pretty quick which one performed best for you.

if you are actually a 19.8... I'd stay far far away from the mp-30s.. they are probabably almost as close to blades as cavity backs get. I don't know much else about the others though.

I think you would be better off with a game improvement set from today. Todays golf balls are manufactured to play with todays clubs and vice versa. $225 could get you a solid set online.

well, actually, kinda curious to how you swing. before you go buy some irons, try someone's musclebacks. just get a feel of it. who knows, maybe you could play them just fine. but if you're not that confident with your irons, stick with the cavity backs. Also, don't limit yourself by price to just those models, ebay does wonders for golf equipment.

Maybe look into a set of Wilson clubs, they are very cheap and with that money you can get them brand new.

I get how a lot of you guys are saying "try them out", but I'm really not sure where I could go to try them out.

I remember that you told me what town you lived over near worcester but i forget, but there is a golfer's warehouse in Natick which is just about 30 mins up the pike, go there are try some used irons of the sets that they have and demo them.

    • I would have paid you. I think it's a reasonable assumption that the extra putter was not in play.  Having said that "Did you declare the extra putter out of play?"  This person seems like a bit of a weenie and he is also setting a dangerous precedent. Let's say he wins next month. Then when it's your turn to pay up, you could refuse. Telling him "I timed you on hole 8 and you searched for your ball and found it at 3 minutes and 1 second. So, you should have taken stroke, plus distance and didn't." You could then show him your stopwatch feature on your phone where you timed it out to 3:01 and say "See."  I actually would just let it go and assume the guy is a weenie. Because doing stuff like that takes the fun out of friendly bets. If he can't afford to pay up, he shouldn't bet.
