So I have been playing my boxer hybrids for about 6 months now, and really liked them, but just felt I wanted something a little different.

I went to Edwin Watts and tried out 16 hybrids. Tested each one out blind (atleast as blind could be based on knowing what some look like at address). Suprisingly enough, the one that I chose I never would have thought of. It was the Wilson Staff. I bought the FY 19.5 degree and the 4h 24 degree.

Played today and absolutely loved them. I could not believe out of every one, that these came out on top. Here are the list of what I tried:

1. Adams Pro Gold- Liked it, but felt too much like my boxer
2. Ping G10-Made it to final 3, but just not more than WS.
3. Nike-Could not work it at all.
4. Cobra Baffler- Hated this club
5. Taylor Made TP-Did not like feel.
6. Bobby Jones- Very good, but too much like a wood.
7. Callway FT-Not my cup of tea
8. Callway X-Did not like at all
9. Callaway Heaven wood- Reminded me too much of an old wood.
10. Tour Edge Exotics-Very much liked but too high priced.
11. McGregor MT- Did not like at all.
12. Taylor Made Burner- Made it to my final 3, but not more than the WS.
13. Nickent 4DX- Did not like at all.
14. Titleist 585-My least favorite out of all of them.
15. Cleveland Hibore XLS- The look and sound bothered me.

In the end, the WS won out. Obviously not a review of any of these clubs, nor am I saying anything against any of them. Liked many of them, but not more than my boxer or definately not more than the WS. In the end I learned, that going in blind was a fun way to look at clubs as objectively as I could.

Im surprised that EW had the Exotics... When I went earlier in the summer they werent carrying them.

I had to buy them blind but I am very glad I did.

Interesting selection.

I've heard a lot of positive comments about the Wilson sticks.

I admire your tenacity to wade through all the offerings to find what worked best for you . More of us should try this process!!!

Another day out on the course yesterday and I can honestly say that I love these things. The weight is heavier and they give me much more of an iron feel than many hybrids that feel a little too much like fairway woods to me. So far so good.

I tried out several of the hybrids that you tried, as part of a detailed outdoor club fitting. I went with the new Taylormade Burner hybrids. I loved the way they set up, and the ball flight was perfect. I had never owned hybrids before, and can't wait to see what they do to my score. Full disclosure: I went with the Taylormade Burner plus irons, so the hydrids could be integrated into my set. If I hadn't bought those irons, I might have given more consideration to some of the others.

Thanks for the full disclosure. I liked the TM's. I didnt think they compared to the WS, but that is why I love equipment. Different strokes for different folks.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
