Has anyone done this? I don't know if it's taboo to do this but I guess this is just the DIY side of me talking.

I mean, if you know how to regrip, have a table saw, etc. what would make it that hard? I sure would save a load of money on having my local pro shop do it for me. They charge $15 bucks a club to shorten and an additional fee to regrip.

Exactly what I said! The Pro Golf near me charges like $7 bucks or so, but the turn around time is a week at least. They send it out to some guy to do it for them.

But, what couldn't I do from home that a pro shop would do differently?

Most places around me charge between $5 and $7 a club. And the turn around time is 48 hours. I think even Dicks is only 9.99 a club.

Sadly, there's no Dicks Sporting stores around me.

as far as doing it yourself, piece of cake. do your research, practice on some cheap throw aways, go for it. my fitter doesn't actually do it himself, he just makes the kid do it. i would not recommend a table saw though.

i've also discovered that after three years of golfing now, i'm pretty much settled into the clubs i have, so it's not even worth it to do it myself, even though i can pretty much do anything i set my mind to.

I definitely have been doing some research. I have an idea of how much I should cut off, but is there a website that specifically helps you figure this out?

Also, I've been hearing people say that the swing weight will change, it will change the flex point, blah blah blah. If so, what do professionals do about that then?

The best thing to use is to cut them down with a grinder. Use a metal cutting blade, wrap the shaft in a rubber hose if you have some (so the shaft doesn't get marred and adds extra protection when putting the shaft in a vice), put the shaft in a vice and secure down, but not to hard, mark the amount you want to cut off, and have at it. If you've never used a grinder or a dremel for cutting metal, I suggest you practice first.

Thanks for the tips! I have a little bit of experience cutting metal but I'm going to practice on some old clubs first.

Right now my main concern is the swing weight, flex point stuff. Can anyone confirm this stuff and will it affect the performance? I've heard both sides but can't find concrete answers.

Read number 7 post, that seems to be a could answer IMHO.

Maybe a stupid question but why not use a pipe cutter? Unless you are talking about a graphite shaft?

I cut down and old Ping B60 a couple of nights ago and used a pipe cutter. It worked great, clean cut. Added grip tape and a new grip, done.

I have band saws, grinders, cut off wheels, you name it but the pipe cutter seemed simple.

Yes, that would be very efficient too.
