Ok, so right now I play the Titleist D2 driver with blue Aldila NV shaft (stiff). My swing speed is about 110 and i consistently hit the ball about 270 and up to 300 when i bomb it.

Im looking for a driver that will help me get that little extra ROLL with my driver and more consistently get into the 290-300 yard range on drives. I guess my real question is- can I solve this w/ a new driver, shaft, or combination of both?

I read that the new Titleiest 909 and Taylor Made driver actually have less than 460cc heads in order to help maximize distance for better players??

shaft . Aldila sounds like a strange shaft for a d2 try a fujikura or proforce and I feel you will have significant change

one thing about going the extra mile there,s never a lot of traffic

what,s in the bag

what's a good pro-force shaft for my swing speed and the driver head I'm using? :)

What is your launch angle, spin rate and shot shape? If you're looking for a bit more roll you likely want to reduce both your launch angle and spin rate which is done the easiest by lowing the loft of your driver. Depending on your current launch angle, this could be counterproductive though.

When you "bomb it" do you tend to notice that your fall has a slightly lower flight off the tee? If so, lowing your launch angle may help.

I'm not to familiar with the Aldila shaft that you have either. Can you provide a link w/some info? Going to something with a different flex profile may also help you minimize both launch angle and spin rate. The shaft that did this the best for me was a Diamana WhiteBoard 73 in XS flex.

sounds like a shaft would help. i suggest getting a fujikura xtra stiff, u can swing basically as hard as u want. although i would consider testing a few new drivers to see if you get more distance off of them.

Go get fitted!!! Only this will tell you what shaft is good for your swing, no one here can tell you that, they are just going to tell you a shaft that they use, or they want/would use with your clubhead.

And to rebby, I believe he is actually talking about the Aldila VS Proto "By You" that would make sense since that is one of the stock offerings of the 907 D2

Here's what I play:

you are correct. as of now, i'm going to test our the UST V2 65 and fujikura speeder. I don't think going to x-stiff would help. I've tried the x-stiff before and it felt like a telephone pole.

I'll probably stick with the D2 for a while until the 909 prices come down. By then, I'm sure some crazy new titleist driver will be out. :(

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
