A public course in Melbourne called Yarra Bend has taken over 6 hours a few times. Its a pain in the ass.

You have to love when times are tough and course management is too afraid to piss off anyone. Its coming close to time to join a more upscale club.

6 hr round yesterday. Im not sure what to do. Its really affecting my game since I'm a fairly fast player. ie. no practice swings at all. I walk up and hit. this goes for putts too. I may just stop playing weekend golf altogether and just try to get out once a month on weekdays. Either that or maybe i should continue playing weekend golf and work on my patience.

Once a round starts getting super slow, my game falls apart like clockwork

I'm the same way brother... I am a fast player as well and I rarely take a practice swing. It has definitely affected my game. More so my tee shots because once you're in the fairway it speeds up then the next tee will have multiple groups waiting... this happens at my local course because the 2nd and 3rd holes are handi 1 and 3 so its not easy for your average golfer.

    • It probably wouldn't matter if he stood on one foot — if he was still for a second, the water would likely recede and not be visible.
    • The rules can t cover every possible situation, this one is reasonably clear.  How would you rewrite it to fairly cover the situation you ask, and would it be better or more consistently understood? I think the announcers saw spray from the practice swings, and ASSUMED that there must be standing water there.  But wet turf will produce spray.  And of course Faxon was a tour player, so he views it from a players standpoint.  But players often don't understand the rules really well.  Its a shame they didn't get an actual rules expert at that moment, we know the USGA had people available.
    • Fair enough. By wiggly I just mean the bit about stepping hard or the like doesn't count. Like, what if the player says they plan on playing the lie with massive weight on the front foot and ball back in the stance to try ensure no bounce interaction to prevent the club getting sucked into the soggy turf before the ball, and it's only with ~80% of weight on the front foot that you can see water? But I was more wondering what the announcers were complaining about?
    • Shot a 48, with not lost ball, no penalties, no bunkers, no 2nd short game shots, and no three putts.
    • Day 5 - extremely long range practice session. Probably one of my best practice sessions ever. Doing things in slow motion is like 5x'ing the effectiveness of the practice. Also, I need these same "falling into lead leg" feels on my wedges. And guess what? Practicing this feel on shorter wedges is ALSO EASIER AND MORE EFFECTIVE. Combining much slower than full speed practice with shorter (50-90 yard) shot practice was really good. Change the picture on these shorter shots first. Feel like I'm keeping my arms as straight as possible on the backswing while hinging my wrists earlier is an incredible feel. I feel like this is doing stuff to my sequencing somehow? Much less rushed at the top because hinging was done at a reasonable time? One note someone made on my swing thread before I went on a hiatus was regarding this so I played around with it.  Clubs that don't require as much weight/pressure shift feel fantastic (driver/3-wood/hybrid), but that's almost always been the case.
