If I understand correctly, the dispute between Jones and the bodyguard was alcohol-related and his return to the NFL was partially contingent upon him avoiding alcohol. So, in Pacman's case it was a disciplinary issue.

Yes, I understand that it's a disciplinary issue for Pacman. However, the incident itself is not one that would normally call for discipline. I should have been more clear. There were no signs of punches being thrown only "loud" yelling. Again, for emphasis, I'm not defending him.

As for the NFL, the hypocracy continues. Doctors can give players steroid injections, pain killers, EAS has developed "supplements" that act like steroids and are perfectly legal under the NFL system. They want guys to spend six days a week, roughly 45 weeks out of the year, beating each other up and wonder why some can't leave the adrenaline and violence on the field. These are the cases we hear about. Just imagine the ones that are swept under the rug. My brother spent 12 years producing and directing NFL games. The stories are so unbelievable that if I did not know him I'd think he were BSing.

It's not the first time for Larry Johnson either. Funny how trouble continues to find the same players over and over and over. These players need to make better choices. But they don't.

Yeah, it's Johnson's fault that he goes out and twice has to push a female away because she's physically making unwanted advances. Yeah, pushing a woman is wrong and I don't condone it. Some women, though, can't take no for an answer. Go to Super Bowl week and see for yourself.

It reminds me of the late Sean Taylor. Two guys steal his wave runners, he tracks them down, beats the hell out of one of them and threatens to kill the other one. A little over the top? I don't think so. I'm tired of people defending criminals and those that are involved in criminal activities. He then gets killed and people had the attitude that his lifestyle created it. Yup, it's Sean's fault that he defended himself and his property and how dare he be asleep with his wife and child and get shot to death in his bedroom. I'd like to find one person, just one, that would turn the other cheek after getting robbed and then finding the person that did it holding their property.

I bet O.J. agrees.....

OJ's claim is BS, though. He was partners with this guy on numerous ventures.

Have you ever been robbed? What was your immediate thought? Revenge or filing a police report? Just curious.

As a matter of fact . . . I have.

I filed the police report. Came home from work and the front door was busted in. Revenge? Not really, maybe if the neighbors had seen anything, but they were all at work too so no one saw anything, so it wasn't really an option. I was more in awe because they left the brand new Nintendo console on the living room floor by the TV. They didn't take much because this was 20 years ago and we really didn't have much that was worth their time. Except the Nintendo, it was all the rage at the time and they just left it there. And about 15 games.

Honestly my first thought was revenge. I can't lie about that. It just wasn't my first action. If I thought my fame and fortune would get me off of any harsh reactions on my part, well I might have acted differently.

I do understand that these athletes are people too. And there are many drunk punks in the clubs that line up to be the ones who can say "I got in a fight with (fill in the blank) this weekend". If you are Pacman Jones, you certainly do have a huge target on your back in the public arena. But I'm 36 and have never ever been arrested. Sure I've had a handful of police interventions in my youth. And I know that an arrest is in no way the equivilant of a conviction. But if I had millions at my disposal and millions to loose, I would find ways to entertain myself without putting myself in these situations. Maybe Pacman's bodyguard was the instigator? We may never know. I liken this to a lot of people at my place of employment. They often get fired for being late or missing a day. They say, "you're going to fire me for being 10 minutes late?" When the truth is they are being fired for being 10 minutes late for the tenth time in a month.

As a matter of fact . . . I have.

Which leads me to ask had anyone seen or giving you info...

In the case of Sean Taylor, he knew as people told him who did it and where he could find them. At 22, you don't make the smartest decisions. In this case, I believe he did the right thing. Sometimes, criminals need a severe ass kicking to realize the impact of their crimes. Constantly getting away with crimes and not being punished is not going to deter this continous behavior. I don't apologize for feeling this way.

My answer is in the part of my post you quoted: "maybe, if the neighbors had seen anything." They didn't, so it wasn't an option.

There's no need for you to apologize for your opinion (had you done so, that is!) . . . depending on the circumstances, it can definitely be the way to go. I know my police report did NOTHING other than get my insurance to pay for my losses. I just answered your question concerning my experience.

I think that the way the conversation has turned to other athletes' legal problems as well as personal experiences with criminals says a lot about how little people think of the athlete adressed in the original post.

Just like he has disapeared in the subject of this thread, Jones will disapear as the subject of NFL talk.

I still don't understand why Goodell bothered to re-instate Jones. His track record dates back to West Virginia. Heck, the night before he was to meet with Goodell, he was at a strip club. Seriously, how effing stupid can Jones be and how much does the NFL need a guy like Jones? The last time you were in a strip club someone was nearly killed and you punched out a stripper for picking up money she thought you were giving her. The NFL is an enabler, just like the NBA (not having a marijuana policy for eons) and MLB (not testing for cocaine unless they detect "suspicious" behavior).

Now I'm not saying she's a gold digger....okay yes I am....hope the judge throws it out.

More Larry Johnson news:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8...g-investigated . This is from their bye week. Now, maybe this is being blown out of proportion. But I somehow doubt it. Again, these players need to make better choices. If trouble keeps finding you, go to other places. Preferably not a bar since that's where he seems to have his "trouble."

As a Titans fan, I'm tickled pink for Jerry Jones. He got exactly what he deserved. I would not be in the least bit suprised if he picks up Michael Vick. I'm not exagerating when I say that either. He doesn't care about his organization's image. Granted, image doesn't win Super Bowls, but as of late neither do the Cowboys. Teamwork wins championships. It seems the Cowboys have been buying high performance engine parts for years without actual assembling an engine.

The Cowboys' problem isn't Jerry bring in talented but troubled players. The Cowboys have had a successful player development program for years. Sometimes it works (Owens, Tank), sometimes it doesn't (Pacman), but EVERY team has bad apples with on/off the field problems. Not every team spends millions of dollars every year on an in-house program to try to prevent them.
The Cowboys problem is Jerry hiring another puppet head coach. The players don't fear Philips, they aren't held accountable by Philips. They know Jerry runs the show just like he did when Campo, Gailey and Switzer were head coaches. Until that changes, the Cowboys will continue to slide. I really thought Jerry had learned from his mistakes when he hired Parcells. I guess I was wrong.

Apparently at least one more. And my guess is one more.....and one more.....

I don't know. I get the feeling this is it. Goodell emphasized that he will have meet the NFLs expections. And the Cowboys are not providing security for him now. It's like the NFL and the Cowboys are giving him the gun and waiting for him to shoot himself in the foot. Michael Irvin or Deion Sanders (can't remember which) offered to provide a bodyguard, but Pacman turned them down saying I need to learn to take care of myself. If he can do that, good for him. But if he so much as sneezes on a cop, I think he will be banned for life.

I finally agree with him on something.

    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
