Wow, today I was playing with my dad's co worker and he let me use his iron on a par 3. He didn't tell me what it was, but I was about to use a 6 iron on a 140 yarder. I hit it about 10 feet away. Then he gave me his and I hit it pin high.... WITH A 9 IRON!!! He had a mizuno iron...

and I have founders club. So WOW.

So, I was thinking of getting some new irons for christmas as it would help me a lot probably. What brands do you guys think are the best? (and at a ok price)

Hi 222,
Did you notice what type of shaft was in the Mizuno ? That probably is what you should be looking for.
Also check on the loft on your Founder's comparing to the Mizuno's.

if u hit the mizuno 9 iron 140 (which is a decent distance for a 9 iron), then i would go for mizunos and ask your buddy what shaft he has in them

In my Hoofer Vantage

I"m prettyy sure it's a stiff shaft, I was trying to hit his extra stiff Titilist Driver as well 9.5 and it went pretty far with lots of roll. (like 230).

The irons were heavier than mine but not that much... not much else though =/ But any ideas on what type of irons I should get besides mizuno (since it seems to be expensive)?

You can find used and older sets of Mizunos for a pretty decent price. I got my MP-33's for about $200.

There are Stiff shaft and there are stiff shafts, most common stock shaft from Mizuno is the good old Dynamic Gold S-300, you need to ask the source to confirm this, plus hitting a 9 iron well does not mean you could hit the whole set well enough. You need to do more home work on this.
Remeber, distance is not the only reason you'll need to shop for a new set of irons.

Go to your local golf stores with a driving range to demo the irons, many stores in the western WA have the set up for you to demo new clubs. The Taylormade r7 set might be in the $400 range now. Keep an eye on the last year's model ( or even older models), you'll save 50%-70% off the original asking price.

You hit your 6 the same as his 9?? Quite a difference. Check everything about the two sets of clubs before making any decisions. Lofts, shaft lengths as well as shaft type. Also, did you strike the two shots pretty much the same?

As for new irons, I recently got some excellent 2nd hand irons from GlobalGolf.com at a really good price. Model is a few years old but in great shape. eBay is definitely worth a look as well but make sure you do you background research on the item and the seller.
