I just got a Nickent 3DX Square Driver and it'll be in my hands by wednesday at the latest. A friend of mine uses one and I'm impressed wwith distance he gets even on mis-hits. I am excited about it after reading all the reviews the pros outnumber the cons but i'd still like to hear from anyone else using it here.

Also it comes with a UST Proforce V2 Stiff thats 46" long. Will i benefit from replacing it with a 45"? or is it best to keep things the way they are?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Just got mine in the mail Friday, haven't hit it yet. Read the reviews over at GolfWRX, after I ordered it, but everyone seems to rave about it. One thing mentioned was the sound at impact. Does you friends have an odd sound at impact? I had a original Nike Square Sumo and it had a more aluminum bat sound, the new ones don't sound that bad. I'll hit mine today and get back with you... jmoc

Well, mixed reviews. I don't know if you are getting the Tour (all black) or the regular driver, but I got the Tour 12* with Senior shaft (what I normally use). The reviews all said the tour model had a more penetrating ball flight, and it sure did. First swing I caught a little of the green ball first but it still went about as high, straight and about the same distance as my other two "longer" drivers. I was not swinging well and got some great distance but not a lot of height. The final hole I put a better (and slower) swing on it and launched it about 5 yards past the furtherst I've ever hit off that tee. So it has the potential to be my longest driver, but I'm going to need to swing it a couple of more times before I make an offical decree. Let me know how your's treats you... jmoc

I play with the 4dx which is the more traditional look. I love it. I pulled out my old Ping G5 the other day, just for the heck of it, and it doesn't compare to my 4dx. I get more distance with the Nickent driver and it is generally easier to hit. Good luck with your 3dx.

jmoc,

It came this afternoon! Wow that was fast! Thanks UPS. I got the non-tour version - what's the main difference? I'll hit mine in a driving range tomorrow and give you feedback!

jmoc, It came this afternoon! Wow that was fast! Thanks UPS. I got the non-tour version - what's the main difference? I'll hit mine in a driving range tomorrow and give you feedback!

The tour is all black, the face and bottom as well as the top. It is also supposed to give a more penetrating ball flight as opposed to the traditional flight that comes off the face then angles up a bit and then comes down, the tour would come off and stay more on the angle (up) it came off at until it starts going down.

Got out again on Sunday, and it is me, not the driver, I'm catching it too much on the upswing and low on the face, landing about 155 out and then rolling to 230 or so. That's about my normal distance on a really good drive (190-200 carry and 25 roll), that tells me this thing is long for sure, I just need to get it airborne. I'm messing with my swing right now, usually I catch my driver level or just barely on the upswing and high on the face, so I would get these results (although less distance) with any driver I'd swing now. Did catch it on No. 2, about tree top high and, once again, about 7-10 yards past my best drive on that hole. I did not smack the fire out of it, just nice and smooth. Got my eye on a regular 12* w/ senior shaft on ebay, if I can snag it for $50 or 60 I'll do it and compare the two. I know you'll post info on your outing here shortly, looking forward to it..... jmoc

Got out yesterday in 20 to 35 mph winds (it's Kansas, it's normal) and had a pretty good run with the driver. The guy I was playing with is a good bit longer than me (30-50 yards), but he was only more than 10 yards ahead of me once. I don't know how much I'm gaining yet (because no distance that day was normal) and I don't think I'm 30 yards longer, but this driver is definitly longer... jmoc

I have one in my bag. It's plenty long, but don't try to crank out a 300+ with it until you get used to it, it'll get mad at you and you'll be snap hooking it into the trees

I like it well enough, but I abhor (it warrants a $10 word here) the sound. It's awkward. I pull it out on the range and after I hit everyone looks and sees who has a baseball bat

I paid $70 shipped, so I can't argue with the value, but I'm looking to pick up a new driver this winter.

This driver does like a smooth swing. Trying to force it does not get good results. It does have that College World Series sound at impact.... jmoc

    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
