Admittedly, I have an addiction. I can't stop buying iron sets. I finally decided to do something about this and sold an entire set of irons and wedges to Golfsmith. I turned into Mizuno MP30s, 2 R Series wedges, a T series Gap Wedge, two hybrids and an old 3W. I got back $500 and immediately purchased a new Nike stand bag, some apparel, a Cleveland 588 Tour Action LW and two Vokey Oil Can wedges . All I can say is that I waited wayyyyyy too long to purchases these Vokeys. They are absolutely beautiful and are so easy to hit and control. Yes, they shred the devil out of the ball but I imagine all new wedges do, too. I can hit them really high and they have a nice, piercing trajectory. Good news is that I still have $100 on a gift card should I get tempted to purchase a 48*. Actually, who am I kidding? I'm going to pick that bad boy up, tomorrow.

For you Vokey users, did you have this feeling when you first purchased them? Does this feeling still last or am I obviously in the honeymoon stage?

I've been carrying my Vokeys for over a year and a half. They have lost some of their spin, but they don't cut balls anymore. I feel like I can play any shot that I am capable of with these wedges. I never play a flop but I'm sure they do these well too. I love them for chipping. And they are very accurate on full swing shots, both for direction and distance. The best thing about them is that if I really need to beef up on a wedge and add 10 or 15 yards with an all out swing I can do that too. The heavy feel never lets the head get lost in the most violent of swings.

Also I find I don't have to account a great deal for the wind conditions. Something about the head and shaft combo keeps the ball down enough that I rarely have to add or subtract more than 5 yards to get the "plays like" yardage.

Sure I've looked at and considered CG12/14s and Mizunos. I even bought a Callaway X Forged in a 64 (which is a close second for me). But this was before the new Vokeys came out in 48-64 degrees or I would have went with that. Honestly, I feel like a better player just having them in the bag. That sounds vain, but confidence in a club is everything.

Haha, you should have kept the mizzys, i would have traded my vokeys for them!

I like the vokeys, alot, you can spin em, run em, high, low, left, right, anything really. very well made, but i always liked titleist clubs, but then i got mizzy irons, and i really want their wedges now.. How do you feel the mizzys compared to your vokeys?

i have a mizuno wedge and you cannot even compare it to the vokey. The head is larger, and has less feel(believe it or not) with chips and long balls. The vokey's and truly unique and give me the ultimate control. I am confident with them, and every ball i hit goes that same distance...is their any more you can ask for in a wedge? NO

I like the Mizunos but they were a little too round and did not have the feel of the Vokey. Granted, I've only hit about 20 balls with the Vokey.

You can't compare the irons to the wedges, though. The irons are something extraordinary. I'm always thinking that there is a better iron, I have the MP32s back in the bag and honestly, there isn't anything better. That's not the case with the wedges, at least the Vokey model that I have: Oil Can Finish.

Nope, just the opposite. I dug out my Vokey 56 and 52 recently, and I much prefer my Mizuno wedges. But maybe I'm still on the honeymoon phase of my clubs.

    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
