Two weeks ago I broke the hosel of my $40 driver at the driving range (the head went further than the ball!), and I'm in need of a new one. I drive around 230-250 metres (250-270yds) and around 1/4 of those have a hefty slice to them.

Due to the current economic crisis and the limited range of golf shops in my area I'm going to be purchasing this baby on e-bay, but I can't decide which one to get.

The options:
Nike Sumo sq 5900
TaylorMade Burner/ Tour Burner
Titleist 907 D2
Callaway Big Bertha

I had a hit of the new Ft-iQ at my local and despite the ugliness of the things, I have a newfound lust for a square-headed driver, but this is not a necessity. The Ft-iQ however is the price of a new hatchback and as much as I like the thing, short of talking to a loan shark, it's out of my price range.

I'm looking for something with lots of distance and fairly forgiving for those off-centre hits.

Of the above options, or any others in a similar price range, what are ya'lls preferences??

Thanks in advance!

I'd say the 907 is your best bet, although the big bertha;s are very forgiving

I am looking for another driver myself and its between the Taylor Made Burners or the Titleist 907D2. I am going to the driving range and launch monitor to see what fits my swing the best and give me the best results.

What shafts are you considering? flex and loft? I like the Diamana 65gram shaft in regular with a 10.5 or 9.5 loft. I like the 10.5 because I can hit the driving off the fairway.

I'm not too savvy on which shaft to get- all I know is that with my swing speed I need a stiff-flex. I think my driving range has a Titleist day coming up soon so I'll have to check that out.
My handicap is pretty high though and I'm worried about Titleist's claims that their clubs are for better golfers- that this would translate to little forgiveness and lots of slice for poorly hit shots. That's why I was a fan of the Ft-iQ- on the launch monitor I hit one off the heel and it went 220 with a slight draw... I guess that that means low workability though??

My bag fell off the cart the other day and cracked my driver so I too am in the market for a new driver. I was going to head up to Golfsmith within the next day or two to hit a couple. I currently use an old school TM R7 Quad 9.5* S Flex that I got off a buddy. I was hoping to find something pretty comparable. I'm going to hit a TM R7 SuperQuad, CGB Max, Titleist 909D2 and Callaway FT-i. Is there anything else out there you would recommend I give a whack? I'm not a bit hitter seeing as how I'm only 5'6" 145lbs, but I hit it pretty straight. I prob avg around 260ish. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

To be honest with you the quad and super quad are very comparable. I own the quad, and my dad has the super quad. Super quad = quad with black paint in my honest opinion. If I were you, I' consider doing what I just did. Take the quad and get fitted for the proper shaft. Best of luck bud.

It's old, and not listed in your options, but for around $100 I don't think you will buy more forgiveness and distance than with a Ping G5. But that's what I carry so obviously I'm biased......or well informed? hmmm

Callaway Preowned has some great deals on new (or "like new") drivers if you can't find what you are looking for on ebay. And Taylormade just came out with a preowned website as well, I believe, though I haven't checked it out yet.

Out of your list, the Nike is probably the most forgiving. I love my Titleist but choose it more because I was comfortable with its look and sound (which improves my confidence and swing!) but it really depends what works for you. If have get the change, try them out at a store or borrow one off a friend if you can before you purchase one sight unseen on ebay.

3balls golf have some great deals on ebay though and I have bought several clubs from them myself and all were in great nick
