So, I'm looking at making a few changes to my set. I got some x20 tours about a month ago with project x flighted 6.0 shafts, 3-PW. I also have a cg12 50, 54, and I'm planning on getting one of the new spin-milled vokeys in 58 to finish out my set of wedges.

I am planning on either getting sensicore or pro-soft inserts and adding those when I regrip my clubs in the next coming months. A couple of questions for suggestions:

1. Suggestions on sensicore or pro-soft, or neither. though, I'm pretty sold on doing this because my elbow has been flaring up where I have tendinitis. Other suggestions to help this would be helpful also.

2. Suggestions on bounce for the vokey wedge. I have a pretty digger-ish swing and I'm really liking the look of the 12 bounce. But, I'm not sure how it'll perform. What kind of suggestions can you make for that?

3. Lastly, now that I've got rifle shafts in irons, I want them in my wedges to. I've been looking at the rifle spinner wedge shafts and the project x flighted shafts. What suggestions between those two (differences, similarities, etc.) can you make? Also, should I get the 6.0 flex to match my other irons or should I get a different flex?

Thanks for the suggestions. I realize that the best thing to do is hit every option and use the one I like the best. I'm really just looking for some feedback by people that have used these tools and/or have shared in this decision making process at some point.

The only thing that I really have to offer on this is why not get another CG12? I will keep your wedges consistent, and you obviously like the ones you have.

Here's what I play:

well, I like the 54.12. My boss gave me the 50.11 that someone else gave him and I don't like it at all. I also struggle with consistent distances on fuller shots with the cg12s. And, I've heard that the SMs are better with that. But, that's the reason I'm asking, to get feedback.

If I liked the cg12s a lot I probably would just get one of those. But, I don't love them.

As far as consistency, I'm really looking to get consistent shafts throughout my irons to my wedges, atleast with flex. The standard wedge flex isn't cutting it for me.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am thinking about getting one SP and seeing how I like it. If I don't like it anymore than the CG12s, then I'm probably going to try out the X-Forged Callaway wedges. Then, after that it'll be something else. But, I really think that between Cleveland, Callaway, and Titleist I should be able to find something I like; then I can match my wedges with that.

Have you given thought to getting an SL type of shaft? Something a little lighter, perhaps, that would alleviate some of the stress on your elbow? You can get them stepped on to play to a certain flex. An example of a pro who does this is Henrik Stenson.

As far as wedges, go to the Scratch Golf website. They make wedge recommendations based upon your type of swing. Since you're a digger, they will let you know what type of wedge and the ideal bounce. It's free, too. As far as matching shaft on wedges with irons, that's a personal choice. FWIW, I had Project X shafts on my wedges and compared to the wedge flex on my Vokeys, it's no contest. The wedge flex wins out. Wedges are about swinging easy and controlling trajectory and distance. I just felt, mentally, that I was too worried about loading up like I did with my irons. Plus, the shaft is lighter and allows for more swing speed.

I really want to get a vokey. But, no stores in Baton Rouge have gotten them in yet. I really would like to hit them first so I can compare the different bounces for the 58. I also wish that they'd send some with different shafts, but that doesn't happen very often.

anyone who has hit the x-forged and spin-milled, which one feels softer? also, which one gets more spin? This is killing me. I'm starting to lean towards the x-forged now..is it really that much softer than other wedges?

The X-Forged is just that, a forged wedge, where as the Vokey is a cast wedge. So yes the X-Forged is a softer wedge, but IMO the the Vokey's spin more.

Here's what I play:

I had all Vokey wedges when I decided to add a 64* Before the new Vokeys hit their website, I decided to get an X-Forged. This is a great wedge. Another sandtrap member that was using Vokeys gave me some advice that was spot on in his experience with the X-Forged. "They are a touch softer than the Vokeys and they swing a touch lighter." They do not have the "swirly" milling on the face of the club that the Vokeys do. They do however set up quite similar to Vokeys and the profile is similar enough to the Vokeys that I don't have to make a mental adjuestment when going between the two.

Distance wise the X seems about the same, although I'd be comparing a sm60 with the x-forged 64. But even so, I get about a 12-15 yard gap between the two, so that seems about right. I do like the feel of the Vokeys better on chips since their slightly firmer feel translates into more feedback. But the X-Forged stops just as quick on hop and stops as my Vokeys did when brand new.

So between the Vokeys and X-Forged I'd say:

Vokeys: touch heavier, firmer feel, great distance control on full shots, better for chipping (only slightly)

X-Forged: slightly lighter feel, softer feel, great distance control on full shots as well, more bendable than a cast wedge should you be tweeking your lofts often (Titleist's website only recommend bending the tour chrome Vokey +/-1 degree)

As for the looks, both clubs are great looking in their own way. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But if I was a Callaway man I would be leaning toward the X-Forged and knowing I wasn't giving up anything with them. But with a sack full of Vokeys already I may replace my 64 with the new spin mill IF they ever get here. My local shop is saying not until January. I'm planning on a lot of short game practice before then. If it takes that long, I don't want to relearn a new 64* and will probably just stick with my X-Forged.

I would get Vokeys if it wasn't for the fact that I am working on getting all cleveland wedges and I have a thing with not mixing major brands. That being said the New SM Vokeys are inticing. My problem would be is from what I hear about them cutting into balls rendering them useless after some holes (different for people). For someone like me who is in school and doesn't work till summer I would have a rough time having to buy balls more often. I use found balls most of the time just to save my good balls.

the thing that concerns me about the vokeys is tht they are cast and cast=inconsistancy that is a very important aspect in wedge play imo i would look for a forged wedge

As a player that uses X20 tours which are cast, how would this affect me? I see that you play forged irons, but I don't.

Plus, I think the cast = inconsistency comment is completely false.
