What effect does a shaft that is too stiff or not stiff enough have on the shape of the golf shot? IE does one promote slices or hooks or does it just effect shot height?

As a rule of thumb, too stiff can lead to pulls/hooks and not stiff enough can lead to pushes/slices. Of course, this is not always the case as shaft 'stiffness' is a pretty subjective term. Other shaft related factors such as kick-point, torque and weight also have big influences on ball flight.

I have always found the opposite to be true. Too stiff equals push/slice and too weak equals pull/hook. I don't know if there is any one thing that hold true for every player, but this is what I have found.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I found this article, which supports what 'goblue107501' said. This article says too stiff should go right, too flexible should go left. I have found the opposite to always be true for me (but every swing is different).

Here is the link for the article about Flex:

For my swing....for what it's worth:

Too high and too left is too soft. (BTW that only happens when I try a senior flex graphite or in my CPR 26* hybrid, but I use it for "up and over" recovery shots)

Too low and too right is too stiff.

But I do believe for higher swing speed guys a too soft shaft will make the club face lag too much, not square itself and leak out to the right. I just think I read that somewhere.
