Got some irons in the mail today. The Nickent 3DX Pro with stiff Nippon MS 1180 shafts. I think I called then NS Pros in another thread, but the site says "MS 1180" so that's likely the correct thing.

Initial thoughts are "how in the heck are these pro irons?" The best word to describe them is "thick." They have a thick topline and a super-thick sole. Lots of bottom weighting that most pros don't need (or they wouldn't play things like blades or near-blades). Perhaps Nickent is just sucking up to customers, making the 12-handicapper think they're a "pro" when they're not, but... I just don't know. Maybe I'm just way off. Maybe looks are deceiving here... Gosh I hope so.

I also got The Pipe putter. It's comparable to a Scotty Cameron C5 or, more easily, a two-ball. I like mallets and this is more a mallet than a blade. I could see how this would be an effective putter. I rolled some putts with it and it felt good, but the true test will come later. Don has a review of this coming along some time... Oh, and I like the look of the headcover.

Well if those knock the 735's out of you bag be sure to let me know.

I'll be interested to see how you like them once you get a little swing time with them. Not sure I could use the pipe putter. It just does nothing for me visually. I guess if I was draining everything I could change my mind though.

    • Day 49. Played 9 from tees a bit beyond my comfort zone and was humbled. Hit a couple good shots so will take that at least.
    • +12 47, and never lost a ball or had a penalty. Got the snap hooks off the tee for the first 3 holes. So, playing the punch out game. Probably had like 20 putts. Bad short game day. The greens were weirdly firm but slow. I just don’t get spin out of the rough. I had a SW, with good height hit middle half of the green and end up almost off the back of the green. I know what I was doing with the full swing. Bad habits creeping in.
    • 9 years and counting. Lil chipped paint here and there but still going strong. Also have an 18 deg driving iron that I got a couple of years ago which is doing well too. @iacastried it and I think he liked it.
    • For PING to assemble and ship it? It's a 3H. Yea, the new club has more loft. How do you like that, 2H?
    • Then go on gitchu a brand spanking new 2H son.. what are you waiting for?
