I have been looking at titleist ap1 Irons when I some nike cci's. I find it hard to go against titleist irons but I was wondering if you guys think these Irons are on par with the titleist Irons.

please state why one is better or are they just better in different aspects like feel forgiveness and workability.

Workability with either of those anchors? lol. I'd go with the AP2's....they arent that much harder to hit, and provide better feel/feedback.

I feel like a lot of people here are extremely titleist biased. It's a great golf company, but I find their stuff to expensive and sometimes a little too hype endorsed.

Haven't heard great things about those cci's. Mizuno makes an mp-52 iron that's a lot like the ap1's and ap2's. I like taylormade the most so you could take a look at their tp irons or their r7 tp's which are cavitybacks but very workable as well as cast for durability. Cleveland cg reds are also in that range of workable forgiveness while being cast.

If you're getting cast clubs for durability go right ahead, but if you're getting them because they seem cheaper, go for some forged sticks. I highly recommend looking at mizuno's if you decide to go that way due to the price deals on ebay.

I didnt think I would be advanced enough to use the AP2s but I will look at them thanks.

I admit I am titleist biased but not so much to miss a good deal (i wont get screwed over buying a Scotty Cameron). I love the feel they give and I dont know why but useing titles clubs and balls just give me a feeling of confidence and golf being largely a mental game i will take every little bit of help. I will look in to those clubs seriously. Thanks!

I ordered the AP2's two days ago... when I get them and have a chance to try them, I'll get back to you. Hitting them in the net at Golfsmith there was no contest... nothing else I tried even came close.

I would always err on the side of more forgiveness. There is no reason not to get yourself a more forgiving iron design unless you are a +5 handicap. Otherwise you are only hurting yourself and your wallet in the long run. Take some time and look at the tour pro's bags and you will see many more cavity backs than blades.

Whats in the bag?

I need some help. I am a somewhat beginning golfer and i ordered the Nike Slingshot OSS irons which i recieved today. Has anyone seen these in person? what i was wondering is that on the 8,9,pw,aw the black piece on the back of the club head is full. on the 4,5,6,7 the black piece on top of the saddle on the back is not there, therefore the cavity is somewhat open. Is this the way they are suppose to be?

jcrob902- Do you really feel that the 52's are game improvement irons? I have heard they are somewhere between players irons and Game improvements, but isnt that for people with a 10 or lower handicap?

If you'r refering to the quote above no I don't think mp 57's or the 52's are GI irons I was just agreeing that as a former Titleist player I now prefer the Mizuno irons there a better iron and have more to choose from in my handicap catagory,I would probably compare the MP 52's & 57's to the AP2'S but no where close to the AP1's sorry for the confusion.

Congrats. Got mine last summer and haven't had one complaint about them. The only real issue I've had is not getting as much spin out of the rough like I did with my old square groove irons. No problems spinning the ball from the fairway though. Sweet feeling clubs.

I would agree, the Ap2 irons improved my play. I don't plan on changing irons for a long time,

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
