Picked up some of these racks at Lowes or Walmart a couple of years ago.

They'll hold a can of beer or soda (lemon/lime soda is great)....you place a 4.5lb chicken over them and fire up the coals (I use indirect heat from the smoke box).

Sip on a few of your remaining colds ones and wait on a feast.

The skin comes out extremely crispy and traps in all the natural juices. You can also use and injector to squirt in your favorite flavors.

I love doing chicken on a beer can. Using the rack does make it a bit easier (no problems balancing the bird on the grill). I use my gas grill and only light the burners on the side opposit the bird(s). I use a dry bbq rub on the bird being sure to coat the inside cavity of the bird and even putting some rub under the skin of the breast and thighs. I put about a tablespoon of rub in the half full beer can. I don't think I'd waste any burbon in the beer, but who knows it might make a difference. I do like the flavor you get from beer as opposed to soda pop (one time I didn't have any beer in cans and had to use soda).

Some Northerners and most Europeans are more likely to drink their beer out of bottles. However, I learned this technique from Bobby Flay (a New Yorker) on his Boy meets Grill episodes years ago.

Hm, what is a good rub I could get up north? I'm wanting to try the drunken chicken and the pulled pork. Any tips? Thanks a lot
Also do you need the bracket? or can you just put the beer can on the grill, with the chicken on top?

Don't need the bracket. For a basic rub, just use Lawery's seasoning salt. Then with 15 minutes left, coat the bird with a mix of BBQ sauce, honey, and lime juice.

For fancy rubs of all kinds try the following link: http://bbq.about.com/od/rubrecipes/R...s_of_meats.htm

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
