I will add what I've heard from people who know, too: your best launch conditions are your best launch conditions.

This most often affects people who play in windy conditions and think they need to hit a low bullet. So if "piercing" is too low, that's a problem. Of course, if "high" is too high that's also a problem.

I'd choose neither and go with a third option: just right. How you perceive the resulting ballflight is your own thing.

That's ultimately the deciding factor I believe.

One of the best amature golfers I know is from Texas...relocated here about a year ago...and due to the winds where he lived, every shoot is a knockdown/stinger style shot. He is so deadly accurate, it's spooky. Even though the weather conditions here rarely reuire a shot like that...he's stuck with it because it just feels natural to him. Who's to argue with a +1 hdcp?

The most important factor in golf is control. You gain control by being able to predict different influences on the ball once it leave the club face. Wind, turf conditions, topography, humidity, all have their own little influence. It really does not matter what kind of ball flight is used. Each person has a natural trajectory of his/her golf swing. You have to learn to use what you have to overcome these outside influences on the golf ball so you can hopefully find your ball after you have struck it. That is the name of the game... hit the ball, find the ball, hit the ball again.

My natural trajectory is piercing. I like the ball to cut through the wind like a sharp knife. If I hit a new driver and the ball flight does not match what I like to see, so long new driver. I don't change my swing to fit a new driver. I make the driver fit my swing and feel. I'll be happy to give up 10 yards to hit 90% of the fairways.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

It's funny I found this thread after I asked for help under the Equipment Forum.

My swing changes this winter have resulted in better ball striking but a much lower ball flight.

I just got back from a simulator and was hitting my 5 iron about 183 yds with 166 yds of carry. So I had ~17 yds of roll.

Not used to this. Love the ball striking, but am definitely not used to the low trajectory.

By the way, I asked for recommendations for a ball that promotes a higher trajectory. Got any?

Do you remember what the simulator said you swing speed and trajectory were? Spin rate info would be good...but most simulators don't offer that.

Bridgestone e5+ for starters. The DtSolo used to, but I still haven't tried the DT carry. The Bridgestone 330s hits pretty high for me and I'm a fairly low ball hitter as well.

I prefer a higher ball flight, higher than I have now anyway. So as Erik stated, so to speak, it's all relative. I have seen high ball hitters that sometimes hit a little too much cut, but the ball hangs in the air so long, that it turns into a massive banana ball. I hit the ball so low with my driver that it isn't in the air long enough to miss many fairways. But if the ground is wet or if there is a long forced carry I am in major trouble.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
    • I think the $50 fitting price tag is per club. The clubs I am most interested in getting fitted for are irons. And I'd rather not spend a bunch on getting fitted for multiple irons. Would I be fairly safe to assume that choosing something like a 6 or 7 iron for fitting would likely relate to other lofts in the same configuration/make/model?
    • A Mevo is 500. Comes with little decals to hit balls inside too.
