For the past couple of seasons I've been playing Callaway X-16 pro series irons. After a launch monitor session with a trusted clubmaker a couple seasons ago, I had them re-shafted with Nippon NSPro shafts. What a difference! Perfect shaft for me and for anyone who finds Dynamic Gold S300 too heavy and R300 too whippy. But those big heads and that cast stainless feel just weren't cutting it. But this winter I found my clubmaker had become a Srixon dealer and I saw a 6-iron and just fell in love with it. In the playing position it's a classic blade, but the sole and back are definitely game helpers if not improvers. I pulled the trigger and had them made up to my specs. Finally got in a couple rounds with them last week. As someone who grew up with forged clubs, all I can say is that this is how a club is supposed to feel: Solid. At the same time, all the technology in the weighting and grind makes them exceptionally easy to hit. Eureka!

As a side note, the Srixon's are available in a wide variety of shafts at no upcharge! This is what finally sold me since I wouldn't have to pay for reshafting to get what I wanted. As I recall Dynamic Gold, Project X, Rifles and, of course, Nippons are all available at no extra charge. Cool!

Now I can root for Furyk who's playing a modified version of these irons!

Oh... come on. He's a tough guy who has won a U.S. Open! He's due. If he can putt with that potato masher.

One other thought completely unrelated to Srixon stuff but completely related to the upcoming Masters: There are a couple of ways you can root for someone in a tournament like this. You can use your head. In that case, Tiger Woods is a no brainer (not to make an obtuse pun). The other way is to root for whom you'd like to win. And here, for me, the list is long. Not that I don't like Tiger, but I think it would mean more to me and to guys like DiMarco, Furyk, Goosen and Els to come in Sunday afternoon as Masters Champions. So go with Woods if he be your true favorite (as player and potential winner). Me, I'll root for the guys I'd like to see win. And if Woods wins, well, more power to him and it's great to see him build his legacy even further.

I'd say the Z-URS compares favorably with the Nike Platinum. It's a little harder feeling off the putter than the V1. Still have to hit the B330. I'll have a fuller review of Srixon stuff in Monday's Bag Drop.
