I am really making a push to get better this year and looking for an incentive to motivate me to continue to practice and play better. So I thought I would put a goal out there for myself. If I carry an index below 15 I am going to buy a new set of irons in the $900 range.

The dilema I have is that I keep thinking that if I make it to single digits index I would get myself a set of Miura Irons as extra incentive. Based on a rough quote and depending on shaft choice they could go from roughly $1300-$1600. The look and style apeal to me so it would be an awesome reward to myself if I like how they feel.

Is the premium on these clubs a function of name and reputation for quality?

Also, other than personal preference on feel is there any downside to the Miura Irons?

Thanks,
-E

They are some of the softest feeling irons that I have ever hit. I was teetering with the notion of buying a set midway through last season but ultimately settled on something different. Their material and forging process is the best in the world and attention to detail is a premium with the Miura folks. They hold their value as well as any clubs on the market and are always a conversation piece. And no, I do not think you are paying extra for the name. Good luck in achieving your single digit goals.

The downside for me would happen the first time I hit a rock that was burried a few centimeters under the ground and end up with a small chip in my 8-iron. I would probably cry at the sight of such a pretty club scarred like that.

Seriously though... like scratch wedges they are simply out of my price range (or at least out of the range of what I would pay), but they look great and I have heard nothing but praise for them... so if you don't mind the cost, jump on in and let us know how they work.

I just got the 202s with KB Tours regulars shafts. Like any other iron the key is to get the right shafts for your game. All of the current US line up are players clubs even the larger 102s are for the skilled player. Their Blades are not that much harder to hit than anything else they have currently sell. Most forums on Miura irons reveal the heads are best teamed with Rifle shafts or Nippon NS Pro. DG tends to mute the soft feel the heads have. I like the KB Tours with Sticky Iomic grips on mine.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Now I just need to focus on playing better to earn my reward. A little more reading today indicated that they can run $2000 per set. That is getting a bit steep hopefully my first pricing range was more correct.
