How do YOU feel about not being able to walk on the weekends (assuming it's a rule)

We're mainly discussing group play.

No we werent. We were talking riding vs. walking in general.

But I was being facetious just the same....who cares which is faster. Lets just say walking is faster on the front nine and riding faster on the back!

We were actually talking about not being able to walk on the weekend (see original post), when someone erroneously suggested that was because riding is faster.

Actually both clubs I belonged to down South encouraged walkers to take the sand bottles to refill their divots. Worked out fairly well. In my experience, slow play has everything to do with people being clueless, regardless of driving a cart or walking.

Give the man a seeegar! And any others who have posted the same thought here.

I work as a starter and I can tell you all from experience that there is no demographic that can be singled out for slow play. Rider or walker, young or old, male or female, beginner or veteran.... all can be either fast or slow in equal amounts. That said, all else being equal, 4 golfers who use carts properly will always be faster than 4 golfers who walk at a good pace. 10 mph vs. 3.5 mph is just simple math. This assumes that carts are allowed on the fairway... cart path only is the stupidest thing anyone ever dreamed up. BUT... and this is the key... both parties will play at or faster than the course's recommended pace of play , and that is what we should all be striving for.

Because any discussion like this will always turn into riding vs. walking and pace of play.... there are a dozen such threads on this forum, and just as many on every other golf forum on the internet.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I used to go to Cape Cod with my buddies and it frustrated me to no end as a couple of the guys were completely oblivious to the fact that they were slow. One guy would be out there talking in the middle fo the fairway when it was his turn to hit. Then he would take 5 practice swings, if not more, duff his shot and start all over again. Carts or not, he was slow.

Played with my friend's father in law last year, we walked and he rode. We would reach the green on the par 3s before he had even teed off. Told him that he needed to be faster and he just didn't get it.

It is all about how fast you want to play and how responsible you are.

In the town I attend college at, the courses don't allow walking on the weekends. Back home, they do.

Generally, I like to walk; however, in the U.S. we have evolved into a golf cart dependent society. When playing among my circle of golfing friends and the majority want to ride, I ride... more often, at our club, we are encouraged to walk.

Everyone here has debated the pros and cons of riding and walking and which is or isn't faster. I like to play golf... so, I'm not hung up on walking or riding. I am a fanatic about pace of play; so, I can relate to much that has been said. I suspect that the golf course in question has significant business on the weekend and that it probably makes more business sense to service that clientele with carts (again... debatable). That seems to be management's decision. I guess it now becomes a personal decision on whether or not you want to play golf at that course on the weekend... Hmmmmmmmmmm.

    • Day 299: played 18. Hit the ball well, but did not score well. I think I ended up +10, with half of that coming on 2 holes.
    • Day 549, May 4, 2024 After lessons and working with Natalie, hit some balls for awhile. Just backswing stuff. Forgot about the slightly shorter stuff, though I'm sure it was as they were only about 75% speed with brief pauses.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
