My are identical in length....iron is +1.5" and the hybrid was supposed to be +1".

Just wondering if I got what I what I requested.

Both are the clubs in my sig line.

How do your hybrids compare with the appropriate iron?

I'm talking about a static measurement....not the length of the shots with each.

I have a Taylormade Rescue Mid 4 hybrid that is about an inch longer than my 4 iron. It also has 2 degrees more loft, so it's pretty much a 3 iron replacement.

There really is no golf "standard" for length. It's really tough to tell you an answer on this one. Callaway's "standard" could be shorter than NIKE's and that could explain it. There are also different "standards" for graphite vs. steel shafts. You could check their sites to see if you got what you requested.

As for my hybrids, my 3 hybrid is about the same length as my 4-iron. I did it purposely though to cut down some distance to fit my gaps better. It has a longer shaft than most other companies, so IMO the length was fine. I would think that a 4h should have a longer shaft than a 4i by about .25". Graphite "standards" are a bit longer, so maybe .5". I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but it's really tough to do so because of golf "standards." I'll look at a clubmaking book I have and get back to you on this one...see what they say about it.

It is true that there is no industry standard. It has however been "somewhat of a standard" to build hybrids longer than their corresponding irons and shorter that their corresponding woods.

My 4 iron (if I had one) would be 38.25" standard for Mizuno. My Cobra 4 hybrid is 40". That's a big difference. It seems pretty common to see 4 hybrids in the 39 1/2" or 39 3/4" range. I can't get the Nike website to work very well. According to Golf Digest 2008 club review the Nike Sumo 3 hybrid is 39 3/4" (shorter than many) so that would probably make a stock 4 hybrid 39 1/4". Again check the website to make sure. I'm not sure about the X14s, but I know X12s had a stock 4 iron shaft length of 38 1/2". If yours are +1 1/2" that would be 40". If the 4 hybrid was 39 1/4" stock and +1" that would be 40 1/4". If all those variables are right then basically those two clubs are within 1/4" of each other. Differences in grips or grip instalation could make them identical in length. This kinda makes sense because Callaway has some of the longer stock lengths irons and, if what I read about the Nikes are true, they have relative short shafts for hybrids. The opposite is true for my relatively short Mizunos irons and relatively long Cobra hybrid. The only company I'm aware of that makes hybrids identical in length of shaft to the iron they replace are the Mizuno MX950 & MX100 blended sets. I'm sure there are others. I'm just not knowledgable of them. ****BTW be glad that you are one of the lucky few that has a hybrid that probably replaces your 4 iron in distance almost exactly. It's that usual gap in shaft length when going to hybrids that give some people fits on exactly which hybrids to play.

I just checked the Nike website and the SuMo2 is 39.25" for the 4 hybrid. So +1" would be 40.25".

Dumb question perhaps....but how can I tell on my club....is this 40.25" a shaft measurement or the length of the club at address?

I'm going to hunt for a tape measure now and check the address length.

Shaft measurement. They should be almost the same though. Just take a tape measure and measure from the top of the grip to the bottom of the hosel. That won't be exact, but close.

most equipment companies use the next shaft up from whatever hybrid they make. so for instance, a 4iron hybrid will use a 3iron regular iron shaft. so you hybrid 4iron should be slightly longer than your regular 4iron if you dont have any type of length adjustments.

well... I don't have a 4H and 4i... BUT, my distance gap between my 4i and my 3H is about 10-12 yards. As my sig shows... they are a set that were made to be inegrated though. My clubs all gap around 10-12 yards with the exception of my 3W to Driver and PW to GW and LW.

It's supposed to be from the tip of the grip to the ground, but measuring a club standing up is tricky (at least for me.)

Lay the club on its side. Put the bottom against some straight edge (a wall, 2x4, etc...) as though the straight edge is the ground. Then measure straight down the shaft from the top of the grip to the straight edge. Not everyone measures this way, but I've found I always get a CONSISTENT measurement when doing it this way. Something I can't do when trying to measure a club standing up.

Hybrid heads shouldn't be the same length as an iron head anyway. The numbers don't correspond.

Snake Eyes Viper Tour Hyrbrid:
3 - 21 degrees, 234 grams
4 - 24 degrees, 239 grams

Snake Eyes Viper Tour Irons:
3 - 21 degrees, 238 grams
4 - 24 degrees, 246 grams

The #4 hybrid is the loft of a #4 iron, but weighs the same as a #3 iron. To get the swingweight correct it should be the same legth as a #3 iron.

There doesn't seem to be a one-to-one replacement with irons and hybrids.

sorry... didn't read the thread very well, must have been doing something else, or maybe the wife was...

anywho... I would guess it depends on the manufacturer, some probably make them the same while others make the hybrids longer. Adams gaps the irons in my set at 1/2" increments, then the hybrids are 3/4" increments... which for some reason still works...

I checked an off the rack hybrid the same make and model as mine. They did get the custom length right when I ordered it. All is well.....question has been answered.

It was interesting to note the various lengths of different manfs clubs. Slight variances amoung some of them.

Congrats on a proper order.

I think there is more variance in standard hybrid length than irons for sure.
