I have got a Celeveland 58* head without a shaft, and I was thinking about building it up. So I got a steel shaft, a pull out from a pitching wedge, and I installed it in the head. Now the shaft won't go all the way down inside the head, I don't know why, so the result is a wedge that is a little bit longer than my normal 56* sand wedge. Will that affect playability??

Also, I cannot seem to find a ferrule anywhere here where I live and buying off the internet is not an option for me, so I will just have to keep it without a ferrule, will that affect playability by any mean??

Last question, I know I can cut off the shaft a little bit from the top, but that would require removing the grip, and again, I cannot find any new grips for sale here, so is there a way to remove the old grip without damaging it so it could installed once more or do I have to cut it in order to remove it??

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the many questions.

PS: I took some photos of the club, sorry for the bad resolution, they're a cell phone pictures. The third picture is of the club compared to a normal length sand wedge.

If the shaft doesn't go completely in, it could have the wrong tip diameter (.355 vs. .370). If you put a taper tip shaft into a head that accepts parallel tip, that could cause the shaft not going in all the way.

A wedge that's too long won't affect playability much. You could just choke down. If you don't, the swingsweight would be slightly higher than your sand wedge (depending on head weight). Ferules are for some protection, but mostly for decoration.

There are ways to remove a grip w/o destroying it. Just search online for it. I've never done it, but I'm pretty sure a special tool is required. You could also use an air compressor (there's a thread about the air compressor idea).

you have that backwards. he is probably trying to install a larger parallel tip .370 shaft into a 355 taper tip head. Im pretty sure you can have somebody enlarge the taper tip to a parallel tip .370 size. If not you would need to locate a .355 taper tip wedget shaft. Playing it without the shaft fully seated into the head will probably cause the shaft to snap. I wouldn't recommend it.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
