Saw the funniest thing today. A guy tees up his ball for driver, and the tee is leaning forward in a pronounced way. Looks like the ball wouldn't be able to stay on it, but it did.

When I asked him about it, he said that he started doing it years ago, and it became his trademark. Others would try and imitate and couldn't do it. When asked why, he would tell them it gives the ball more foreward rotation for longer roll. hilarious!

I told him I was gonna steal his trademark. love love love itt!

that reminds me of a story i heard about john daly (i might've read it on this forum, actually) where a guy was watching daly tee off and asked him "john, how do i get more distance out of my shots?"

john told the guy to press his tee forward in the ground far enough so that the ball would just baaaaaarely stay on it. get that tee forward as far as you possibly can. the guy was like "wow, i would have never thought of doing something like that. how much distance will it add?"

"about half an inch," replies john.

My Stepdad always tees up this way and it bugs the hell out of me. I pointed it out to him and he said he didn't do it on purpose, but somehow everytime he manages to have his tee pointing almost at the hole.

I use that same John Daly story (I read it in one of the golf mags), when I play with people I don't know and other golf funnies or jokes to lighten the mood. Always get a few guffaws.

The funiest tee story.

At TPC at Sawgrass many years ago on a wensday practice round Fultom Allem and Jim Dent are playing together. On the 18th tee Fulton hit two balls off the tee and steps aside. Big Jim dent steps up and tees his ball a mile in the air as he has always done. Fultom steps up as if to measure the hieght of the tee and asks "Jim, why do you tee the ball up so high?" Jim pounds one down the middle and says while walking away "so I want top it". Needless to say there were people rolling with laughter.

You can buy tees like that. Back in the late '90s you used to be able to buy these plastic tees called, "Velocitees" that were designed to be leaned foreward.
Recently I saw some similar tees that are a lot like Zero Friction tees, but lean foreward much like the old Velocitees did.
The theory behind it was that you would get more carry for greater distance with those tees, but I never personally saw much difference in ballflight or distance with those than I did with standard wooden tees.

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
