So I am thinking that irons will be my next purchase to my cleveland bag. Now the golds and the reds are on sale and I am just curiouse the differences to them. I would like to know how much harder the reds are to hit than the golds. I don't mind the size of the golds but that top line is a monster to my eyes. Sole width isn't bad on the reds to me. I don't know how wide they are but my pro selects are 3/4 and inch. I prefer the thinner top line and so far for the year I am starting at a 17 HC so if the reds are truly harder to handle than the golds I may have to bite the bullet. But if the big difference is just the size and feel from shots then I am not to worried. Just looking for the imput of other people. I have hit the reds but I couldn't get past the topline of the golds so I am looking for insight on the golds to deturmine if I want to even try them. Yes the golds are nice but if anyone has hit both I would like to hear the differences that they found. Coming from a 14.5 HC last year I think that I will be better than that at the end of the year this time around. Also I would like something to grow into. I don't want to be the person that runs new clubs every year.

If you can't get over the thick topline of the golds now, before you have even bought them then it will just eat away at you as time goes on and you will end up wanting a change before the year is out. Personally I would hit them both and see what the differences are. Visually I like the reds over the golds, but I would get the irons which FELT the best for me.

FWIW I hit the reds about a year ago and thought they were good. They look relatively clean at address and definitely have a dramatically thinner top line than the yellows. The yellows looked really bulky to me and they definitely didn't make me feel like I'd hit them well strictly because of their sheer size. I simply didn't feel like I'd get the feel and feedback which is necessary to evaluate your ball striking.

I wouldn't really worry about if you can hit them well. Provided you're willing to put the time in practicing wit them, you'll do just fine. Those clubs are still quite forgiving. To be honest, I'd be very surprised if they didn't make you a better ball striker and golfer in general. I went from playing Cleveland CG4s to Titleist AP2s and improved almost instantly.

Just my two cents. Best of luck with your purchase!
