Hello,

I purchased a set of Ben Hogan irons 3 years ago. I know that I didn't order standard grips because I went through a fitting at that time but I don't know what size grips I ended up putting on the irons.

Ben Hogan is owned by Callaway and Callaway is telling me that they don't have access to my old order so I can't get the specs on my irons.

Is there anyway to determine what size grips I currently have on my irons??? If I cut one off can I tell? They are obviously Ben Hogan label grips.

I'm thinking that my grip size may need to be changed but I want to compare grips with the size that I've been using for the last 3 seasons.

Also, how can I determine the other specs on these clubs? Lie angle, shaft flex etc??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

If you go to Golf Galaxy, etc. you can put a regular and a midsize (or oversize) sample on shaft in your hand and see what is the closest to being correct. Correct is the ring finger of your left hand (assuming you are right handed) barely touching the pad of your hand when wrapped around the grip. If standard is too small and midsize is too large (like me) have them wrap a couple layers of build-up tape on before putting on the standard grip. Same if you're between Midsize and oversize. It's fairly easy to figure out.

As far as the lie angle, one of these places should also be able to compare to standard lie clubs and figure it out pretty close. The stiffness should be on the shaftband or maybe stamped on the shaft. If not they have ways to figure it out. Get some help.

That is a good question. I could tell you just by picking up the club. Maybe if you have a grip side by side with you clubs that are different sizes you could tell by feel. Meaning, if you have a standard, 1/16 over, 1/8 over, etc., and just grip them side by side you should probably be able to figure out what they are just by feel.

I change my grips all the time and I don't think I have ever seen a size listed on the grip anywhere. Some grips use a different color or something along those lines, but I just take their word that I got shipped the right size.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.
