I am planning on upgrading to a good fitted set of clubs later this summer. Right know I am playing with a cheap set I bought off Ebay a couple years ago. I am really trying to improve my game this year and I think I want to start off with new everything and get a fitted set of clubs to help my game. What are some iron sets I should be looking at? I like the idea of a hybrid set vs a straight iron set. I have a hard time with the 3-5 irons and have used a friends hybrid and can hit that much better. I have been looking very close at a Adams a3S Hybrid Iron set that I really like the looks of. Is this a good choice? Anything else I should be looking at?

Mark,
I'd look for a pro who is a dealer for the brand of clubs you are wanting and take some lessons with intention of buying. Thats what I did with my current set of clubs and I'll never give these irons up. But I think you're making a smart choice to get fitted.

As far as what type of irons, bear in mind when I make this recommendation that I don't know you, I would go with titleists, pings, or callaways. All three make decent irons and depending on what type iron you want oversized, cavity backs, etc. you really can't go wrong. Personally I'd go with something that is a mid level iron. You may take a look at the titleist 775 CBs or Callaway X-20s

What are you looking for? What is your ball flight like? Do you want a set of irons that will get the ball up and easy and that you will feel comfortable over any type of lie?

You mentioned Adams and you can't go wrong. The A4 series is really nice (including the A4OS). Taylormade makes a hybrid/iron set, too, as does Cobra. FWIW, Cobra Baffler hybrids are very good.

You can also create your own set as long as you remember to cover all your gaps. You can then mix and match any set that is pleasing to your eye and agreeable with your swing.
