The question is that I have just bought these because I was finding my wilson fatshafts lacking severly in feel and too heavy around the greens when it came to chipping and pitching.

Also unless I was at full throttle on swing speed then they felt very heavy and dead if I wanted a 3/4 swing or cutting back on swing speed.

Played with a demo 6 iron of the macgregor and I love them, knew very little about except the name of macgregor. As I found out seems I have no business as a high handicap buying them because they are for players apparently.

Opinions please on whether I really do have the right to own these. Will they improve my game or will I be shooting worse scores,at the moment I average 104 on mostly par 70-71 courses?

i think people far to often group themselves into a specific type of iron. My handicap is this so I need a certain type of club. I think this plays to both sides of the spectrum. People who are single digit handicappers who need blades, or 36 handicappers that need SGI clubs. If you like the clubs, and you hit them well, then enjoy the game. Taking lessons might help you grow into the clubs faster then struggling with them, and it would probably be cheaper then giving up and trading them in on something different.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I have hit these now and I have to say they are brilliant. The scoring irons all the way up to the 7 feel like wedges.I feel I'm with 6 wedges instead of 3.

Hit with the 5 iron and it explodes off the face.I had problems between 100-150 yards aqnd I'm sure this is my reason for not shooting below 100.Before my Wilson fatshaft was heavy and the only club I could drop inside 150 on a full swing was the PW,now I can drop comfotably everything up to the 8 iron.

The amount of times where I have layed up and found myself with 110-120 and just didn't have the feel to hit 3/4 iron,I've lost count.

Between the GW and my PW was 100 to 135,then it was my 9 at 150,so just couldn't adjust unless I was hitting a full shot.
Crucially now I can hit 110,120,130 with the PW,9,and 8 so lots of shots and variety of cuts and draws if needed due to the immense feel, plus I hit less shots fat which I think was due to the heaviness of the wilson, but now I can feel the swing path more due to the weight of the Macgregor.

Love them and sad to hear the problems of the company but I won't be changing anytime soon.

Brakkus, glad to hear that they are working so well for you. Being able to hit greens from under 150 should definitely help with scoring.

I have a NVG2 Mactec 9 iron, a Vfoil Gap wedge, and a Vfoil sand wedge. The Macgregor irons are fantastic, you will love your new clubs. As you have mentioned, they have great feel and forgiveness. Very sad that Macgregor golf went under. The 360 face forging technology was a breakthrough. You are right, the ball seems to explode off the club face, with an amazing, positive feedback. I can only hope that their talent will be hired by other companies.
