Hello--

I'm new here. Greetings from Texas.

It seems there are a lot of knowledgeable posters on the Sand Trap so I thought I'd solict some free feedback.

I am considering new irons. I have been playing a set of Callaway X-12s since 1998. They are still good clubs and I like them a lot...but I have the buying itch I suppose. I have had several custom fitting sessions over the years and just never bought new irons. I have satisfied my equipment desires and equip tweaks with Drivers, putters, wedges, and hybrids. I am tempted to test the new iron technology and see what it can do for me.

I am a 9.2 index. I'm 46 and in decent (ha!) shape. Maybe I'm just thinking better and using better course management and a positive attitude...and for whatever the reasons I'm am scoring the best I ever have.

I bought a Mizuno 47 degree wedge to replace a lost PW and the Mizuno feels so damned solid. It's a forged club and the feel is especially nice around the greens.

I hit the Mizuno MX 200s and while I like these clubs for the most part they just don't knock me out.

I also "demo-ed" the Adams IDEA TECH a4 HYBRID irons and loved how the six iron felt and looked...in fact really LOVE the look of these irons...one of my reservations is the 4 & 3 hybrid replacements...I wish they had at least a 4 iron. I can hit my Callaway 3 iron pretty well...I have a lot of confidence in the 3 iron...it is after all considered a "game improvement" iron I suppose and it seems a tad bit oversized compared even to the MX 200's.

Ok, so here's my question: if you have the Adams IDEA Tech a4s what do you think of them? Did you get any custom fit specs? Do you miss the 4 or 3iron...I haven't hit the hybrids from this set...have you? Anything else you can add is appreciated. Thanks for reading my rambling and thanks for any input.

My hybrids are Callaway FT's, those Adams hybrids are way to weird looking for me. At address the Callaway's feel awesome but that is just personal preference. Oh and I can smoke the shit out of the ball with them.

Sorry for not answering your question! :)

    • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
