This may be a dumb question and it may not make sense, but here it goes.

My irons are +1" and are TT Dynamic Gold S300. Can you tell a difference in the feel/playability of a club that is fit/cut to my specs vs. an iron that is extended one inch (I don't even know what kind of insert is used to extend a club)?

I have not made a comparison, but didn't know if anybody else has, or am I totally crazy for thinking it might make a difference.

most companies use shafts of different lengths, not inserts.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

I understand that. My question is, will a 38" 6 iron with a dynamic gold shaft feel/play the same as a 37" 6 iron with a dynamic gold shaft plus a 1" insert.

No, i dont think the insert performs as well as a proper shaft does.

I was looking in to this a couple months back and it seems to be an all or nothing kind of topic. Most people seem to think that extenders ruin the feel and are a horrible option to pursue. On the other side is the bunch that says there's no difference....

Personally, I haven't tried.... but for the cost of regripping and a couple bucks for the extension, you try it yourself pretty easily... assuming you already have the shorter club.

This may be a dumb question and it may not make sense, but here it goes.

I currently play DGSL S300's that are +1" done with inserts. I personally have not noticed any difference in feel (although a frequency analyser-type thing might and would most likely be so miniscule so why worry about it); I am not good enough nor finicky enough to pretend that it would make that much of a difference.

But in terms of playability, those inserts mean everything to me as I now have irons that fit perfectly and now hit the ball much more consistently and properly. So in deferance to the so-called purists who are worried about miniscule and/or theoretical differences in shaft stiffness or frequency because of extensions, don't worry about it. I think you would have to be someone like Tiger to even notice the difference. Being properly fit last year with extensions and adjustments to lie angles has helped me drop ~7 index points last year. With results like that, I personally couldn't care less about a variance of a couple of cpm's between shafts with inserts vs. pure shafts. Go ahead and flame me if you want, but that's my opinion and i'm sticking to it.
