I just found a good deal online for a FT-9 driver, but I have never seen one in person. I am working on an island, Nantucket,Mass, and don't have access to a golf shop. I am in need of a new driver. Anyone familiar with this model. If so, any thoughts on getting the "draw" model versus the "neutral". I hit a mild draw now and wonder if the "draw" model would overdo things. Need help guys. Any thoughts at all welcome and appreciated. Wife says OK. That is a start. But this is a lot of dough for me.

I used one for about a month just after they came out and i was not a fan. I had a friend who is a Callaway rep and he hooked me up and I just ended up giving it back to him. I didnt like the feel or the contact. I switched to the R9 and it is hands above the FT-9, IMO. It comes down to what you like tho.

Thanks for the reply man. I appreciate it. Put the driver (and free 4 wood) in my cart on the website. Holding off hoping to get some input here. Pathetic, isn't it?

Seriously though, anyone else have any experience with this driver. I realize not seeing the club in person sounds odd, but my circumtances are odd. By the time the wife and I fly to the mainland, rent car, motel, etc.. we will drop $400. That is what the club cost, so it makes me want to just order it online. Any input greatly appreciated. I will hold off on pulling the trigger until I can get a few more opinions. Thanks guys.

I'd recommend going with the I-mix. That way you can change out for another shaft if you don't like the first one. The shaft has a lot to do with how the club hits and feels. The head itself is solid. It's an improvement over the FT-5. How it performs is subjective. What is your current driver btw?

I have a 5 year old Big Bertha Titanium that has been a good driver. Looking for something new. A few weeks ago I got a Big Bertha 460 for $149 and it is a good driver, but I ordered the regular flex shaft. Thought I would slow my swing down and hit more fairways. But I can only take a partial swing with it or it gets flimsy. I hit it about 255 which is a drop in about 30 yards over my normal. I might give this to my dad who it would be perfect for. Problem with the Big Bertha Titanium that it replaced, I had a X stiff Accuflex V.2 shaft put in it that is a bit too much for me at this point. I used to swing harder. Now I am looking for more accuracy. I have to swing the older driver too hard to control it in my opinion. Yet the new driver I can't swing hard enough. So I thought while the buy a FT-9 driver, get a free fairway wood offer was going on I would take advantage of it. Looks like awesome stuff. I have never bought a brand new top end driver. Thought I would treat myself to one for once. Just curious how others feel about this driver.

hi, i bought the ft-9 driver few weeks ago and so far, i have liked the feel of it. when it made the contact with the ball, it felt clean and the sound was wonderful. i got the driver in neutral. I have asked the pga pro at the golf shop and after checking out my golf swing (swing speed, launch angle, etc) he recommended me to go neutral and regular shaft (yes, my swing speed is not too high but the guy said this shaft is little stiffer than other ones).
hope this helps.

I play the FT-9 I-MIX with the Aldila VooDoo XVS7 shaft, the FT-9 is by far the best Driver Callaway has produced in a long time, for my game at least. I also like the I-MIX concept, it really allowed me to get the perfect shaft for my swing profile, and I'm certain that has played a large part in my satisfaction with the FT-9. I play a 9 degree neutral and with the VooDoo shaft I get very solid feel with good feedback and an outstanding ability to shape and control my shots form the tee box. Distance is very good, but again that I believe is do in large part to the ability, with the I-MIX, to build the perfect Driver for your game. Also the gone is the ear splitting "klink", the FT-9 has a nice solid sound.

So all in all I'm extremely pleased with the FT-9, certainly a Driver worth considering when looking for something new to put in your bag.

True it is a little pricey, with the VooDoo shaft mine came in at $600.00, certainly can't fault anybody for balking at that price tag. But the Boss (Wife) let me re-distribute some of this years tax return to my golf bag, so I was able to go a little crazy, but I'm very sure I've used up my golf allowance for many years to come.
But I have to say, based on the performmance to date it has been worth every single cent, I no longer fear the tee box, this club is a weapon, period.

    • Day 445 - 2025-12-19 Hit some balls at AMGC today before getting on a flight and driving back to home through some not-so-awesome weather. The backswing is starting to feel pretty good. I have to clean up the knees a little.
    • Day 25: did my drill with foam balls in the garage for a good 20 minutes. Worked on my hands not being as deep.
    • I unknowingly ordered what would sort of be considered a staff bag. It is the 14 divider version of the Titleist staff bag and was stated on the website to be a staff bag "light" (Titleist Tour Premium Cart Stadry), but it is pretty big. Love it though.
    • Day 39 (19 Dec 25) - weekly men’s group shootout today - we had as a “fifth” in our foursome the course teaching pro.  With the solid winds playing havoc, it was great having him to offer insight and counsel on what to take into to account. Mind you, he did not recommend specific club but rather to what consider and how to plan.  What a great day for course management education at the next level.
