I posted this response in another thread about the MX-100's:

I'm shopping for new irons and have hit a few. Last month I went to a demo day that and hit several sets of irons, including the MX-100. I also hit the MX-200, MX-950, Callaway X-22's and X-22 tours, and some Adams clubs at that demo day. Since then I have it the Ping G-10 and the Cobra SZ's and TM R7's and Burners.

When I attended the demo day, I hadn't picked up a club in months and I hadn't done anything since a knee surgery I had March 12th (microfracture surgery on my left knee). I say that because I was swinging, terribly that day. What I took away was the answer to "what clubs would be good on my worst day" The answer to that question was the MX-100. These clubs were the most forgiving of the bunch. The forged MX-200, when hit just right, felt amazing. I didn't hit too many just right. The MX-100's felt good when they were well struck and they were very forgiving. In addition, the hybrids hit pretty well (I carry 3 hybrids and hit them alot so I'm wondering if buying the ones that come with the MX-100's would be a waste of $$).

Here's a few thoughts on what I've hit so far:

MX-100 - very forgiving game improvement club, really liked these, on my short list
MX-950 - I really wanted to like these but I just didn't hit them well at all (see above)
MX-200 - less forgiving than the MX-100, feel great when hit right
Adams - I was really surprised at how little I liked these clubs. I mean I really didn't like the way they felt at all. I need to hit them again now that my knee is better and I've played a few rounds.
X-22 - I've never hit Callaway irons before, I always look at them and decide against hitting them. I was surprised at how much I liked these irons, they are on my short list.
X-22 tour - aren't that different than the X-22 but I didn't hit them as well.
Ping G-10 - hitting from mat indoors these felt amazing, looked amazing, on my short list
Cobra SZ - hit the same day as the Ping G-10, they didn't compare well, just didn't feel very good to me
TM R7 - hit indoor, hit OK, didn't make my short list
TM Burner - hit indoor, hit OK, didn't make my short list

I really wanted to like the MX-950's (on sale) and MX-200's (forged) but it was the MX-100 that seemed to fit my swing. I really wanted to like the TaylorMade Burner (I hit lots of TM stuff now) but they just didn't feel as good. The Ping G-10 and Callaway X-22's were nice surprises.

Right now my short list is: MX-100, X-22, G-10. I'm going to continue to hit clubs (including these 3) and see if my short list changes. Then I'll go to a range/fitter and hit the short list a bunch until I get it figured out. I doubt I'd go wrong with any of the 3 sets on my short list and that inlcudes the MX-100's asked about (which are $100 cheaper than the Ping's and Callaways). As I read boards about clubs eventually people just say "get out and hit some clubs and see what feels good to you" so I'm trying to do just that. Looks like I could get the Pings and Callaway in 4-GW instead of 3-PW as well and that's a good option for me.

Just my $.02.

i don't think you can go wrong with any of those 3 clubs -

1. the Ping G10s have been in Golf Digest's Hot List 2 yrs running and Pings in general are solidly made and will last in your bag for quite some time, even if you go down in handicap to single digits.

2. the X-22, well quite frankly this has been a winner since it was the X-14 and now multiple face lifts later we are still talking about the same club (give or take, the X-16 was a bit of a departure but that was corrected in the X-18 and X-20)

3. the MX-100 is a new offering and with the Y-tune sweet spot is both forgiving and feels good for a cast iron.

i'd be a happy bunny with any of these in my bag. how they blend with your existing hybrids may help you decide which set to get. also check out the distances you get from these irons, because both the Ping and, especially the Mizuno are reportedly "shorter" than their peers.

Happy hunting.

If you order Mizuno's from a proshop you should be able to get any of the clubs you need. So you can probably just order the 4 or 5 clubs you want. something to consider.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I think you are right about being happy with any of them. Lately I've been thinking I should just go and hit them 1 more time and make a decision because there isn't really a wrong choice. With the MX-100's how they blend with my current hybrids seems like even more of an issue since they have hybrids with the set. At the same time, if I can hit the Mizuno hybrids like I can my TMade's then I think I'd have more consistent distances and my shorter TM hybrids would come out of the bag.

That's a good point. A friend of mine did just that at a local pro shop. He bought a mixed set of MX-25's and MX-900's. The place he bought from is recommended as a good Mizuno fitter....naturally it's at least a 40 min drive from my house so it's hard to make it there during the week

    • Day 445 - 2025-12-19 Hit some balls at AMGC today before getting on a flight and driving back to home through some not-so-awesome weather. The backswing is starting to feel pretty good. I have to clean up the knees a little.
    • Day 25: did my drill with foam balls in the garage for a good 20 minutes. Worked on my hands not being as deep.
    • I unknowingly ordered what would sort of be considered a staff bag. It is the 14 divider version of the Titleist staff bag and was stated on the website to be a staff bag "light" (Titleist Tour Premium Cart Stadry), but it is pretty big. Love it though.
    • Day 39 (19 Dec 25) - weekly men’s group shootout today - we had as a “fifth” in our foursome the course teaching pro.  With the solid winds playing havoc, it was great having him to offer insight and counsel on what to take into to account. Mind you, he did not recommend specific club but rather to what consider and how to plan.  What a great day for course management education at the next level.
