I don't have a PW in the bag right now so there is a gap from my 9i to my 52*. Should I go with a PW single club or go with a 47 or 48 wedge?

I'm thinking of going with a whole new wedge setup of 47* 52* 56* 60* and pulling my 3i out because I use my Hi Fli in its place anyway.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've really been focusing on my short game and it has improved a lot.

I'm pretty sure a PW will be around 47-48*. I have the same spread you are considering (9i, PW, GW) and it works awesome. Nice even spread of distances.

How many degrees is your 9i---43? 44?

I would go with a MacGregor forged PW

Some pitching wedges are 45*, it depends upon the set. It seems like most of the better players' irons have a 45* PW and the GI irons have a 47* PW. Thats not true in all cases, however.

It depends what the loft of your 9-iron is as well, you want an even spacing between your 9-iron and your gap wedge.

Thats completly false forged irons usually have a pitching wedge at 47* and SGI and GI irons have lofts at 45* its so people think they are hitting the ball farther.

From Mizuno for the MP30s

#9 43*/62.5*/35.75" -- PW 47*/63*/35.5"

I think I'm going to go ahead and pull out the 3 iron for now and go to a 4 wedge setup. Golf Galaxy has a Mizuno 47* with good groves and face for $36 that I'm going to pick up. I'll then start preparing to throw some serious cash at the other 3 new and maybe tweak them a bit.

What brands and lines would be good to check out? I know about Vokeys and CGs and the other popular wedges. Any lesser known makers that put out a good wedge?

Do not overlook the Mizuno wedges (MP-T or MP-R). I have been very impressed with them. They feel better than the Cleveland or Vokey's (and I was always a Cleveland guy). They do not generate as much spin as the Vokey's and probably not as much as the Cleveland's either, but they feel great.
