I need some advice on which wedges to carry, I am new to the wedge bounce thing.
Here is what I have at home to choose from all are Vokey oil can’s:
254-10
256-10
256-14
260-04

I am planning to carry the 254-10 (for all fairway shots and most chips), 256-14 (for all deep rough and fluffy sand), and the 260-04 (for the flop shots).

I do not know if I a going overkill by carrying the 256-14. It would be nice to have a high bounce wedge for the sand and deep rough. Is the high bounce 56 that much better out of the sand and rough? Is it worth caring? How many of you guys carry a high and low bounce wedge.

Thanks Greg

I carry a 54.10 and a 60.04.

When you open the 54 to 56 degrees of loft, you've got almost 12+ degrees of bounce anyway. The sand I play on is usually firmer, so I play my 60 as often as my 54, and I appreciate having a bit less bounce for firmer conditions elsewhere around the greens. I think having two wedges only 2 degrees apart is overkill. But the bounce of the wedges you do use is more related to your sand and turf conditions and the kinds of shots you play from them. For me, less bounce is fine, and 54/60 spaces my gaps appropriately.

Agreed. If you think about your full shots 2 degree will only give you about 5-8 yards difference. I've got my wedges spaced 4-5 degrees apart from each other. I also use wedges with low bounce considering how firm the courses are out here.

    • Hey, thanks for the feedback. I do lift weights but I’m also adding yoga or Pilates for mobility and flexibility to my routine.

    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
