i am 14 years old and about 5"2 i hit it average about 180. is that good?

Yes. Being 14 years old is quite...impressive.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

as long as you're keeping it straight and you can put it where you want, that's fine. but if you hit another club just as far but more accurately, namely a long iron. then, i'd suggest hitting that club and getting some lessons to make your driver more efficient. at your age, lessons are of utmost importance. this is a game you will play, hopefully, for many long years to come. you need to have a strong basic foundation, from which to build upon. because without that, you will find yourself in ten years wondering why you've still not broken 90.

Ditto on the lessons. I played fairly well as a high school golfer (6-10 hcap index). I hit the ball straight and fairly long (for a late-bloomer). I didn't know why or how it worked for me, but it did. My trouble was usually around and on the green. I hit a growth spurt during my junior year and went from 5'1" to 6'1" in about 12 months. All of a sudden, I had a wicked slice and lost a ton of distance. I never had lessons (except for the occasional pointer from the golf coach) so all the things I was doing correctly changed when I grew 12-inches. Had I received lessons, I could have maintained the same swing and maybe improved my game when I hit puberty.

When i was 14 i was driving a little longer then that but not as acurate.
You will be amazed how long you will hit it in another year or 2, when i was 14 i was driving around 230 and now around 290 but i do swing alot harder now (117-119 MPH) btw im 15, you will improve heaps!!! Keep up the good work!
I still dont hit as many fairways as you though....

Very impressive if its accurate. You'll realize over time that accuracy is so much more important. Anyone would tell you they'd rather use an extra club (7i instead of 9i for instance) from the fairway than be closer and in the rough/trees/hazard.

    • Day 35 (15 Dec 25) - Short session today focused on exaggerated weight shift using left heel trigger.  Hit a few pitches using the process to help capture the feel.
    • Day 125 12-15 Half swings with flow drill. Focused on rhythm, loading trail side then getting to lead side correctly. Hit a few foam balls but mostly drilling without ball.
    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
