I will be visiting Albuquerque, NM from march-may next year for a clinical rotation for school. Just wondering what Albuquerque is like? Any decent/affordable courses I should look into playing? How's the weather there, is it golfable year round or must the winter months be taken off? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It's a combination of highland desert and mountainous climate here, so it can get pretty hot in the summer but 95-100 is the max. It gets pretty cold in the winter, but we don't get a lot of snow, etc. You can definitely play golf year-round here. Great food, great culture, and a lot of sights to take in.

As for courses, there are several public courses in town that are pretty nice and reasonable. There are also a handful of casinos around the outskirts of town that have very nice courses, but they are a bit more expensive. Here's a couple of links for you:

ALQ area is one of my favorite places for golf. Dry with altitude. Very fun to play. New Mexico is beautiful.

March is the best time to go. With some luck (snow conditions) you can ski/snowboard in the morning, play golf in the afternoon, and fish in the evening.

The easiest way to do this is to ski pajarito when the lifts open http://www.skipajarito.com/

then drive down to play pueblo de cochiti golf course http://www.pueblodecochiti.org/

then fish cochiti lake http://www.anglerguide.com/newmexico....cfm?TR_ID=288

not many other places you can pull off this trifecta so easily and cheaply.

Thanks for the replies guys. Great information. I was just wondering though...I checked the average temp for Albuquerque on Wikipedia and it was quite a bit lower than I thought it would be. Can you actually golf year round there? or are your November/December to January/February months pretty cold and ungolfable unless you are completely die hard? Thanks again.

mid Nov-Feb can get cold especially once the sun goes down. Jan and Feb can be cold and windy.

If it's too cold in ALQ, you can always drive south down I25 to Truth or Consequences (200 miles) or Las Cruces (300 miles)

Believe it or not, Albuquerque is right around the same elevation as Denver. Winters can get fairly cold, but thankfully we don't have to worry as much about snow, etc like you would in Denver. The courses will probably be open, but whether or not it's too cold to play is up to you

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
