I have a 17 degree Benross V6 Escape club that I won a few years ago. I took it out for practice yesterday. I'd not really used it before, but it seems to fill the gap quite nicely between my three wood and three iron. From the rough it probably outperforms my 3 wood (in terms of consistency). I'm definitely toying with putting it in my bag more often (particularly where I don't need to carry a driver - maybe using a 12.5 degree fairway wood instead). I prefer to keep my three and four irons in my bag. It's definitely a versatile club, and easy to choke down on to cover both a full club distance and a club less.

Not quite the same situation as yours, I know.

In the bag:
