Next year will all of the stores selling golf equipment be selling all wedges with the v-shaped grooves, or will they wait until 2024?
Thanks

I'm sure they'll do both. If I understand the groove rule correctly, it only applies to those folks playing in tournament style golf. People playing for leisure do not have to conform to these rules until, as you mentioned, 2024.

Only V-shaped wedges.

I'm sure they'll do both. If I understand the groove rule correctly, it only applies to those folks playing in tournament style golf. People playing for leisure do not have to conform to these rules until, as you mentioned, 2024.

The production of U-shaped grooves will stop after 2009.

The pros will need to start using the V-wedges starting 2010. For other competitiors(amateur), they will need to start in 2014. For non-competition rounds V-wedges can be used at least until 2024.

Some points that bear mentioning:

  • Equipment manufactured after January 1, 2010 will have to conform.
  • Stores can still sell 2009 equipment (with the "bigger" grooves) in 2010.
  • Pros will have to PLAY with conforming equipment (the "lesser" grooves).
  • Really good amateurs will have to play with the "lesser" grooves in 2014.
  • Everyone will have to play with the "lesser" grooves in 2024 (at the earliest).
  • The shape of the grooves is not mandated. You can still have square or U grooves - they will just have to have more rounded edges or be shallower or spaced further apart or whatever.
For more, read this thread . Edit:
Only V-shaped wedges.

Wrong. Every club over 25 degrees has to conform (and most of those under 25 degrees don't rely on grooves to do anything - so they'll probably conform too).

The production of U-shaped grooves will stop after 2009.

Also wrong. The groove rule doesn't mandate that the U shaped groove is not used.

For non-competition rounds V-wedges can be used at least until 2024.

You meant "U" until 2024, and I've already addressed why saying "U" is wrong.
